According to Greidanus's article entitled, "Preaching Christ From the Old Testament," there are several hermeneutically legitimate ways to preach Christ from the Old Testament, and really from any passage of Scripture. Discuss which ways are helpful for the sermon you will preach in this class. MIN-430 – Topic 6 – DQ 2 October 5, 2023 Elias Ruiz Professor and Classmates, According to “Preaching Christ From the Old Testament,” Greidanus says the main reason for preaching Christ, is because Jesus mandated it, and He is the way of salvation. (Greidanus, (2021), p.2). I also enjoyed the section where he explains that people think there are many ways to God. He says that Searching for God is like climbing a mountain, Christians, Jews and Muslims all climb up on their paths to God, and all eventually make it up the same mountain. The Bible is correct to say that there is only one way to God, and it is through Jesus Christ. (John 14: 6-11). (Greidanus, (2021). In preaching Old Testament wisdom literature, most texts cannot be linked legitimately to the person or work of Christ. We need a broader definition of "preaching Christ," which also encompasses the teaching of Jesus (Greidanus, 2004, pp. 4-7). The sermon that I am preparing for is Romans 12:1-2. For example, when preaching on a text calling for animal sacrifice, instead of using contrast as a way to Christ, it is better to use typology, which acknowledges not only discontinuity (escalation) but also continuity (analogy). The animal sacrificed to atone for sin was a type of Christ who would offer His life once and for all (Greidanus, 2004, p. 13). As Christians, we no longer offer animals as sacrifices but are now called to offer our own bodies "as living sacrifices," not as sin offerings but as thankings for God's mercy (Romans 12:1).
