A ministry leader's preaching ministry is a powerful aspect of their corporate disciple in the local church. How can preaching messages that are saturated with the gospel impact believers as they grow in their discipleship journey? MIN-430 – Topic 7 – DQ 1 October 11, 2023 Elias Ruiz Professor and Classmates, We are not called to preach convert-making sermons or scholar-making sermons. We are called to preach disciple-making sermons, meaning we must craft sermons that will evangelize, establish, and equip. God’s Word is expounded every week, and spiritual growth takes place. Paul told the Galatians, “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you” (Galatians 4:19, KJV). God’s Word contains everything we need for salvation, discipleship, knowing God’s will, being conformed to Christ’s image, and trusting in God ideally (2 Timothy 3:17). So, the role of the preacher is to expound the Scriptures so that Christ may be formed in his people, not to try and address every perceived need of people. As transformation occurs, people’s deepest needs are really met (Merida, 2009). A ministry leader's preaching ministry can have a powerful impact on believers as they grow in their discipleship journey using gospel-saturated messages. These messages, which center on the person and work of Jesus Christ, serve to remind believers of the grace and salvation they have received through faith in Him. As I read Romans, I understand that Paul’s mission was to be an Apostle to the Gentiles and the churches of Rome fall under that category. Paul wrote to help strengthen them by sharing Spiritual gifts and to be encouraged with each other's faith. Not everyone in the church is a true believer, so Paul covers all the bases. Assuming everyone in the church is a Christian, we will preach our passage as if everyone were Christian. Instead, we need to assume some in our church membership are not Christians, and others attending might be hearing about Jesus Christ's saving work on the cross for the first time. By assuming the lost are among us, we will be more inclined to share the hope of the gospel intentionally and clearly for lost sinners and to call them to repentance. In Romans 14:1–15:13 Paul directly addresses a pastoral issue that is causing division within the churches of Rome. There are those whom Paul labels ‘the strong’ (15:1) who despise ‘the weak in faith’ (14:1) or simply ‘the weak’ (14:2; 15:1). Paul is addressing certain divisions within the church. Reading Romans shows the importance of evangelizing to the believers. Like the Roman church, our churches are full of arrogance, divisions, pride therefore we must preach to the believers so they can pray and watch out for each other.
