Week 6: Teachings About the Temple Name: Daniel Garcia Scripture Read and prayerfully ponder Doctrine and Covenants 128:15 . What do you think it means that your salvation is tied to the salvation of your ancestors? Doctrine and Covenants 128:15 teaches that our salvation is interconnected with the salvation of our ancestors. In the context of the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, this verse suggests that our actions and choices can have an impact not only on our own salvation but also on the salvation of our forebears. This belief is rooted in the principle of vicarious work for the dead, where living individuals perform sacred ordinances on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to receive them while alive. By doing so, they believe they can help their ancestors progress in the afterlife. Therefore, one's commitment to living a righteous life and participating in these vicarious ordinances demonstrates a deep connection between personal salvation and the welfare of their ancestors, emphasizing the importance of family bonds and the eternal nature of relationships. Living Prophet The temple lies at the center of strengthening our faith and spiritual fortitude because the Savior and His doctrine are the very heart of the temple. Everything taught in the temple, through instruction and through the Spirit, increases our understanding of Jesus Christ.… as we keep our covenants, He endows us with His healing, strengthening power. And oh, how we will need His power in the days ahead... The Lord has declared that despite today’s unprecedented challenges, those who build their foundations upon Jesus Christ, and have learned how to draw upon His power, need not succumb to the unique anxieties of this era .... Everything we believe and every promise God has made to His covenant people come together in the temple. Whenever any kind of upheaval occurs in your life, the safest place to be spiritually is living inside your temple covenants! (Russell M. Nelson, The Temple and Your Spiritual Foundation , October 2021) What are some of the reasons God wants you to experience the temple? God desires individuals to experience the temple as it serves as a sacred haven for strengthening their faith and spiritual resilience. In the teachings of President Russell M. Nelson, it's emphasized that the temple is the very heart of understanding Jesus Christ, and through temple worship, people can deepen their faith. This sacred space enables the making of covenants with God, leading to blessings of healing and strength, empowering individuals to confront life's challenges with courage. The temple serves as a spiritual anchor in a world filled with uncertainties, offering a place to build a foundation upon Jesus Christ and draw upon His
power in the face of unprecedented challenges. It encapsulates all the beliefs and promises dear to believers and provides a safe haven for navigating the upheavals of life.
