4MAT BOOK REVIEW: DEMPSEY, EARLEY, and MCCLENDON 3 Concrete Response After reading “Dempsey, Earley, and McClendon: Second Dimension”, it triggered a personal reflection on my spiritual journey. The author’s emphasis on the role of prayer deeply resonated with me. I remembered a period when I grappled with maintaining a consistent prayer life. Their discussion on the transformative impact of daily prayer and communion with God reminded me of the moments when I felt closest to my faith. One specific memory that stood out was when I had to turn to prayer during a challenging phase in my life. I vividly recall the sense of peace and guidance that I experienced during those prayerful moments. It also reminds me of when Jesus’ followers were given an outline for peace. He shared, Pray then like this: Our Father in Heaven, hollowed be thy name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6: 9-10 KJV). The book reaffirmed the significance of prayer in my spiritual formation journey. Reflection While “Dempsey, Earley, and McClendon: Second Dimension” offers valuable insights into the process of spiritual growth, it also raises questions and considerations. One aspect that gave me pause was the somewhat limited discussion on the role of mentorship and guidance in spiritual formation. The book primarily focused on individual practices, and I wondered about the importance of community and mentorship in shaping one’s spiritual journey. The book could have also delved deeper into addressing the challenges and obstacles individuals may encounter during their spiritual formation process. Real-life stories and examples of individuals who faced and overcame such challenges would have added depth to the narrative.
