Brielle Bennet Religion has shaped the world by playing a prominent role in defining cultures. To many, it adds meaning and purpose to fuel their everyday lives. Although this remains today, a lot of these beliefs stem from ancient times. A few of those places being ancient Greece and Asia. Even though religion has changed a lot over the years the hope that it brings remains the same, making it a crucial aspect of many people's lives. Ancient Greece’s beliefs have found multiple ways to impact our modern world today. They are known for believing in multiple gods for resources, weather, love, and so much more. This was very different compared to other culture’s religions. According to Apollonian vs Dionysian “The Greeks had no sacred texts, such as the Judeo-Christian Bible or Islamic Qur’an (Koran), that purported to reveal ultimate truth, nor was it expressed in creeds or doctrines that officially articulated essential beliefs about the gods. Instead of utilizing a professional clergy or hereditary priesthood – ordinary individuals performing the necessary rites and sacrifices –, the Greeks acted out their sense of the numinous, the perceived experience of divine or sacred forces present in the world, through honoring to hiera, “holy things.” Many of their religion is taught through stories about gods as well as paintings and poetry. Creation stories were soon made as part of an oral tradition that was initially cherished by the Greeks in Western culture. Apollonian vs Dionysian also stated “People would share stories as a way of constructing an understanding of the unknown. Where did we come from? What is important in humanity?
“What’s the point of being alive?” For answers to these “big questions,” the Greeks turned to the gods.” Philosophy soon became popular, causing many to ponder deeper questions. Western religions are not the only ones that impact the modern world. Asia is one of the most influential continents. Making many of their religions the blueprint for a lot of our modern ideas. Hinduism and Buddhism are just some examples of that. Hinduism is the predominant religion in India that places a strong emphasis on dharma, leading to rituals, social observances, and frequently mystical meditation and ascetic practices. “It is not a religion that is taught but a way of life.” States the Understanding Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism video. While Buddhism is based on a prince searching for meaning, and soon obtained nirvana. What these religions have in common is the fact they both believe in idol worship. They also were the reason literature and art of symbolic figures began to flourish. It was a way of expressing faith and is still used to this day. Religion has undergone significant changes over the course of history. In ancient times, religion played a central role in people's lives, shaping their beliefs, values, and daily practices. It was often tied to the natural world and the cycles of seasons. In Greece, ancient religions had multiple gods and goddesses. In contrast, today's society is more secular, with fewer people atending religious services and a growing number of individuals identifying as atheists or agnostics. Nonetheless, religion remains an important aspect of many people's lives, providing guidance, community, and a sense of purpose. Many modern religions have adapted to the changing times, incorporating new technologies and social media platforms to spread their message and connect with followers. While the role of religion may have shifted over time, its impact on individuals and societies remains.
