What does it take to make a persuasive apologetic case? Holistic Apologetics? Love?
Reason? Evidence? The ultimate intent of this writing is to highlight how using different
methods of apologetics can be effective and persuasive in explaining the Christian belief in
miracles and arguing the historicity of the resurrection. Miracles and the resurrection of Christ
have been the focus of doubt and debate for centuries. There have always been and will be
questions raised by unbelievers, scholars, and scientists if these rare events are truly possible and
can occur.
A miracle is defined as “an extraordinary event taken as a sign of the supernatural power
of God.”
“
A surprising and welcome event that is not
explicable
by natural or scientific laws and
is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency” Approaching an unbeliever with the
understanding that Naturally, it would be hard to believe that an event has taken place that is
unexplainable by science or one that defies nature or rationale would be a good place to start the
apologetic conversation. Take for instance the miracle of the creation.”
Scripture says in (Genesis
1:1
New International Version)
that “
In the beginning,
God created
the heavens
and the earth.”
This is what Christians undoubtedly believe.
“
There were no processes in place at creation, and
since creation is a completely

unique event, it is difficult to gauge
and classify it other than to say it occurred beyond the laws that were later operating within
creation.”

In making a persuasive case surrounding the Christian belief in miracles and the
resurrection.
The apologist can create a safe space and be understanding of others’ views that
may not align with Christian faith or beliefs. The apologist could utilize a helpful approach found
in the website article
Supernatural or Science: How Do We Explain Miracles
? “When someone
says miracles are impossible, they are claiming to have all knowledge and are placing themselves

in a position to say miracles are impossible. They claim such things based on limited knowledge
and limited experience with comments such as “I’ve never seen one!” When it is pointed out that
they have a narrow temporal and historical perspective, they usually reply, “If miracles did occur,
then they would be rare occurrences,” to which we would respond, “That’s the point! Miracles
are indeed rare events.”

The resurrection is another highly debated miracle. In making a persuasive case
surrounding the Christian belief in the resurrection. Easter the resurrection morning would be a
great way for the apologist to start the conversation with an unbeliever. The Christian faith stands
firm on the belief in a crucified, buried, and risen savior. And the scriptures reveal evidence that
Christ was witnessed after the resurrection.
“
For what I received
I passed on to you
as of first
importance: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
that he was buried,
that he
was raised
on the third day
according to the Scriptures,
and
that he appeared to Cephas,
and then
to the Twelve.” (
1 Corinthians 15:3-5)
And “Although the Resurrection was a historical event that could be verified by the sign
of the empty tomb and by the reality of the apostles' encounters with the risen Christ, still it
remains at the very heart of the mystery of faith as something that transcends and surpasses
history.

“Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection are the climactic events in salvation history. Jesus
lived, died, and rose again. These historic events, which occur at the climax of the biblical
narrative, are at the center of the message of good news. The resurrection is at the heart of the
Christian message, for it is only through the power of Christ’s resurrection from the dead that
death can be defeated, and life can be renewed.
