DQ1
Where do atheism and Christianity agree and disagree on views of the origin of the
universe?
What difference might someone's belief about the origin of the universe make in how that
person lives his or her life?
Class,
Atheism and Christianity agree on views of the origin of the universe in that they both feel that
the universe was created by a supernatural occurrence. Christian’s believe that God created
everything out of nothing, and Atheists believe that the universe has existed forever and that the
Bang Theory is what created it. Christian’s admit scientific evidence is pertinent to evolution, but
they also deny the theory of evolutionism.
The way that beliefs of the origin of the universe might affect the way a person lives their life
would be Christian’s worship God and live their life through him and for him. And Atheists
believe in a more naturalistic or scientific way of life and focus their energy in a different
direction, not basing their decisions on the judgment of a higher power but using their own
judgement and ethics to guide them in making the right choices in life. This does not mean that
one way is better than the other this is just the way each individual views the world.
DQ2
Explain who God is to the Christian using at least three characteristics of God.
Why are the characteristics of God so important to the Christian worldview?
Class,
To the Christian, God is gracious. A gracious God is important because being gracious also
means to be forgiving and forgiving of sins is a part of Christianity. God is also compassionate,
having a compassionate God means always having someone that is sympathetic, caring, and
sensitive to your needs. And, God is trustworthy as well. Having a God that is trustworthy you
know that you will always have someone on your side and that will have your back, someone to
rely on when times are rough.
Being gracious, compassionate, and trustworthy are all important to the Christian worldview
because Christians strive to walk the path of God and live their life through him meaning they
want to conduct themselves in the way that God would conduct himself.
