Hailey Neilson October 11, 2023 BYU-Idaho Book of Mormon REL 121 Sister Augiar Directed Study Lesson 4 Option 2: (2Nephi 1:13-24) Becoming Men and Woman of God From what Lehi taught in 2 Nephi 1:13-24, list at least five characteristics that Lehi associated with being a man or woman of God. Include the verse where each characteristic you record can be found. In 2 Nephi chapter 1: 13-24 we learn lot about what it takes to become a man or women of God. The five characteristic that Lehi associated with being a man or women are, awake and arise from the dust (2 Nephi 1:23) shake off the chains (2 Nephi 1:23) put on the armor of righteousness (2 Nephi 1:23) be firm and steadfast in the faith of Christ (2 Nephi 1:21) and rely on the merits of Jesus Christ (2 Nephi 1:15). First awake and arise from the dust means to be shaken spiritually and be in the world but not of the world. When we are in the world we lose sight of Christ, to become men and woman of God we need to be aware of Christ and know him for ourselves. Second shake off the chains helps us become men and women of Christ because this shows us that we need to come to Christ for repentance and let him take over all our burdens and weakness. Too often we fear turning to Christ, but to become like him we need his help to help carry our load. Third put on the armor of Christ. Putting on the armor of Christ helps us
become like him because we are allowing him into our life. We can put on the armor of Christ everyday by praying to our father in heaven, reading our scriptures, listening to the Holy Ghost and standing in holy places at all times in all things and in all places. Fourth be firm and steadfast in having faith in Christ. Having faith in Christ means to always trust him and his plan for us, when we let Christ in and we show him that we trust him he never leaves us. Fifth rely on the merits of Jesus Christ. Rely on the merits of Jesus Christ means to always trust in the Lord and give him 110%. We need to take upon the name of Christ and work towards always striving to become like him. At times it can feel like we are far from Christ but if we always strive to become like him and work towards allowing him in, we will be blessed forever and ever.
