Philippians & Colossians
Answer the following questions by giving a thoughtful, honest response by:
Referencing the text liberally where appropriate
Clearly explaining your thoughts
Researching outside commentary (cross references, conference talks, etc.) that supports what you are
learning
Remember that these questions (and your answers) are not trivial. Responding adequately will require more than
½ page of total commentary.
Some of Paul’s clearest teachings about Jesus Christ in these books also teach us about how to be optimistic and
positive during difficult circumstances.
1.
Provide at least two verses (entire verse and citation) that are examples of these teachings.
1.
Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
2.
Colossians 3:2: "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
*Add more rows as needed.
2.
Find at least one quote from any Church leader (male or female) that supports or highlights the concept of
being optimistic. Include the quote
and
reference (i.e. Russell M. Nelson, Liahona, 10/23) in the box
below. (

President Gordon B. Hinckley once said, "I am asking that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy
more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we 'accentuate the positive.' I am
asking that we look a little deeper for the good, that we still voices of insult and sarcasm, that we more
generously compliment virtue and effort." ("This Thing Was Not Done in a Corner," October 1996
General Conference).
