Put yourself in Hosea's shoes what would be your response if God told you to marry a
prostitute?
According to what the bible says: "When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said
to him, 'Go and marry an unfaithful wife and bear illegitimate children, for the people of this
land have been utterly unfaithful to the Lord”. (Bible New International Version, 1973/2011,
Hosea 1:2). After reading the textbook, I believed that man's sin is so great that he obeys
God. Longman (2012) states in the book "Debate rages as to whether Hosea was actually to
marry such a woman or whether this language is purely symbolic”.
There is no reason to deny
that God married him to her. (For example, there is no law against non-priests marrying
prostitutes.) Some believe that Gomer was not an ordinary prostitute, but a shrine prostitute, but
there is no evidence for this. My pro response will be I have to obey obedience is better than
sacrifice. Given all this information, it will be difficult, but if God tells us to, we will. His request
should not be taken lightly. I will be obedient Longman (2012) continues: "It is clear that this
marriage reflects a dysfunctional relationship between Israel and God. The three children of this
marriage also demonstrate the broken relationship between God and man."
Hosea and Gomer's marriage reflects the relationship between YHWH and his people.
Gomer cheats on Hosea, like Israel cheats on YHWH. Is YHWH justified in feeling hurt
when his bride is unfaithful? How would you feel?
It is natural for God to be hurt when Israel confesses covenant unfaithfulness, as it is for marital
infidelity. I felt like people replaced me with a generic version of the truth. I will also give them
the opportunity to be healed by understanding the limits of their ability to perceive the world, as
God has done.
At the end of the story (3:1-5), YHWH commands Hosea to go back and love his wife.
Hosea has to pay a price to get her back. How does what Hosea did reflect how YHWH
intercedes for his people?
the bible states “So Israel will live many days without a king or leader. No sacrifices, sacred
stone pillars, sacred vestments or idols”.
5 Afterwards, people Israel “will turn to the Lord their
God and follow him and the King of David. in the in fear, they will turn to the Lord in the last
days, and the Lord will bless them." (Holy Bible, New International Version, 1973/2011, Hosea
3:4-5).
YHWH shows his loving mercy in this verse God gives love to the Israelites even after
they have been unfaithful and have turned to other gods. The Israelites' return to God was
welcomed with open arms, but a price had to be paid. You will thank him for his love and grace.
Hosea 3:2-3 also mentions that Hosea loves. Believe that with Gomer, Gomer is not always
looking to another lover and that is how God feels. Towards Israel. The Bible says, "O Israel,
how can I give you up?" How can you betray Israel? I don't want you to be like Adam, and I
don't want to treat you like Zeboim. My heart beats for you and me. My love for you evokes my
pity. I will not punish you in my anger and destroy Israel again. I am God, not human. I am a
saint, and I am among you. I will not be angry with you” (Bible, New International Version,
1973/2011, Hosea 11:8-9). God bless you I look forward to speaking with you as soon as my
schedule permits.
