Option 7 Points to Ponder
Nephi explained in 1 Nephi 19:18 that he wrote to “persuade” his people to “remember
the Lord their Redeemer.” How can remembering Nephi’s reason for writing help you in
your personal study of the scriptures?
As I read this chapter and pondered about the question I remembered and reminded
myself that the more you persuade and remind yourself or others of something it will
sooner or later become more of a habit and commitment. I think Nephi’s words help
remind me how important it is to remember the Lord while reading my scriptures. While
reading my scriptures and being remind of the Lord’s presence provides for me an
understanding of how important, sincere, and comforting they can be when taking the
time to be consistent and committed to understand the Lord a bit better the farther you
read into the Book of Mormon. I have found that the more I apply the scriptures into my
daily schedule the more of a positive attitude and willing to understand the intentions of
the Lord and lessons I am being taught.
Ponder the meaning of the phrase in 1 Nephi 21:16 that the Savior has “graven thee upon
the palms of [His] hands.” How can this give you confidence that the Lord will always
remember you?
This question reminded me of a lesson the YSA Elders taught in my ward during a Book
of Mormon study, one of the Elders asked the question along the lines of, “how do you
think the Lord prays for you?” or “what do you thinks He prays about when He thinks of
you?” And personally I had a hard time figuring out what the Lord would think if He
prayed for me, but to know that I have someone always on my side regardless of whether
He is physically here with me, it’s nice to know that I can always find His presence in the
scriptures. To know that the Lord would provide a way for me and guide me along the
plan He has provided for me reminds me how lucky I am to have the knowledge of the
comfort He holds for me.
