1 Jennifer Smith Exploring the New Testament David Moreland February 25, 2021 The book of Revelations in the Bible tells us about the events that will unfold with the second coming of Christ. Many readers believe this writing is a symbolic description. Revelations tells of the apocalypse that we have all heard about. The final battle of God and Satan. This part of the Bible gives us a message of hope when God will fulfil his promise of giving his children eternal life in heaven. Revelations tells of a new heaven and a new earth. The world is finally becoming what God intended it to be. Eden is being restored by the events that take place when Christ returns. This amazing hope that Christians have longed for, but it also talks about suffering and dark times during this apocalypse. Chapter 20 is a very controversial part of Revelations that many interpret in different ways. Chapter 20:1 says “I saw the angel coming down from heaven holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain” 20:2 says “and he seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan bound, and bond him for 1000 years”[ CITATION Cro08 \l 1033 ]. This event is known as the Millennial Reign of Christ. The interpretation of the 1000 years has many with different beliefs about what that means will happen. Post millennials believe this 1000 year mentioned in the book of Revelations is happening now. These people believe that the more people are saved and follow God the
2 Millennial will come to an end and Christ will return to rule the Kingdom on Earth. Postmillennialism is confident that all the world begins to convert to Christianity one day. Premillennialism is the belief that Christ will return to Earth before this 1000-year period begins. This a more literal interpretations of the end of time. Premillennialism is the belief the rapture will be the rise of the antichrist. Jesus will return and the battle of Armageddon will take place where the binding of Satan will happen then judgment will take place. The dead will be resurrected, and the 1000 years of peace will begin. Then Satan will be released for the final rebellion and the final judgment. Then the eternal state for all God’s children will begin. Amillennialism is the belief that there is no literal 1000-year reign of Christ on Earth. They believe the 1000-year period is not a specific cycle of that many years. They believe Christ began his reign after his resurrection and ascension. They believe Christ is presently ruling on earth through his followers and he will return at an unknown time to take Gods children to heaven one day. I believe in Amillennialism because that is always the belief that I have been taught in the churches I have attended. I believe Jesus will return to Earth to take God’s children to heaven. I do not believe heaven is here on earth because this Earth is corrupted, and the Bible tells us of a glorious place with our father and I do not believe Earth is that place.
