BIBL 104 Name: Andrea Gibson B IBLE S TUDY P ROJECT : A PPLICATION T EMPLATE Passage: Acts 9:36-43 A. What points of application can be made using the “Four Questions for Application?” State and explain 1 point of application for each of these four questions. Your explanation for each of these points should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. 1. The question of duty When I look at this passage it reminds me of the passage of 1 Peter 4:10 and it says, “It is in our service that all will see God’s grace in action as we demonstrate our faith”. After reading this passage of Acts I feel each of us should use whatever gift we receive to serve others, and faithfully spread the gospel of God’s grace in its various forms. I believe that he wants us to view this miracle as spiritual lessons of the power of the gospel to transform sinners. Good works and charity aren’t done only with money, it can be with our words, our time, and our help to our family or neighbors. Tabitha stepped out in faith and impacted the whole community with her acts of charity and loving deeds, and we should to. Also, like Peter we should be encouraged to spread the gospel to others so they can have that relationship God wants for all his people. 2. The question of character This passage tells us that Tabitha was “Full of good works and acts of charity”. This gives me inspiration because reading this in the passage shows she was a remarkable Christian woman. Tabitha was well known by the widows for whom she made garments for. God used her notoriety and the event of her death and resurrection to life as a mean for preaching the gospel and calling many others. Peter had to step out in faith when he prayed for Dorcas. Sometimes we might be called to step out in faith when we are faced with situations to big but not to big for God. I want to have that great faith Peter had and I want to be a remarkable Christian woman Tabitha was. I want to help people in my career and help those around me that need me. I want to spread the gospel to those near me and call upon God when I can’t do stuff on my own just like Peter. This passage was an inspiration for me, to be a good person that is caring and helping those in need.
BIBL 104 3. The question of goals When it comes to the question of goals unless we see our shortcomings in the light of the law and holiness of God, we do not see them as sin at all. We never know what sin really is until we have learned to think of it in terms of God, to measure it not by human standards, but by the yardstick of His total demand on our lives. To put faith in Christ means relying on Him, and Him alone, to restore you to Gods fellowship and favor. Christ, the savior from sin and an advocate with God, gives us peace and joy, desires to serve Him and His people (like Tabitha), and a privilege of being an adopted child of the living God. My goal upon reading this passage is to call upon him, to turn to Him, and have faith. This is my prayer to God, “O Lord, my God, help me trust you with my decisions and my future. Let me lean on you with all my heart instead of relying on my own imperfect understanding. Give me a clear guidance in my life, Lord”. Amen. 4. The question of discernment Once we become aware, it is imperative that we too act to improve the conditions of those who are suffering, our actions can be the difference between life and death. We should live a life that sounds the alarm, alerting the world that there is a God who is willing and able just like in this passage of Acts. Cleanliness is next to godliness. Being generous, having courage, having faith, and believing in the Lord that he will listen and be there for us is what this passage is telling me. Miracles are extraordinary events. In this passage Peter performs the miracle par excellence- the raising of the dead. Here in Acts, it is Tabitha that falls ill and dies then is miraculously brought back to life. In this passage the miracle is a sign. It is a demonstration of the power of God. It also signifies a relationship between the one performing the miracle and God. Miracles are intended to serve as fuel for our faith and compel witnesses to believe. John Cartwright and Chris Hulshof, Everyday Bible Study: Growing in the Christian Faith, ed.
