Benchmark - Work of the Prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah
BIB-106

According to the Bible, God prepared his prophets for a particularly unique mission. They sent the heavenly message to people who were in dire need of hearing it. The prophets spoke with a power that may still be heard now. The prophets had a clear sense of their calling and God had summoned them to this ministry and appointed them for his service. They had not selected the prophetic role for themselves. Even in the face of the most severe resistance, they were able to carry on because they knew that God had called them and equipped them for their missions (Arnold, , T., B., Beyer, 2015). Isaiah and Jerimiah were one of God’s most influential and important prophets. God had created a covenant with Israel and there were promises that needed to be fulfilled. Overtime the covenant was breaking because of the sin and broken promises the people of Israel were committing. The two sections of Isaiah's message, which dealt with Israel and Judah's rejection of the covenant, were separate. If the leaders continue acting in this manner, Isaiah would issue a warning. In the end, Israel was destroyed because of the people’s evil spreading all over Israel, just as he had foreseen.
Before the Kingdom of Judah was expelled from its territory and allowed
to be taken captive by the kingdom of Babylon, God called up the prophet Jeremiah to provide a final warning to end their idolatry and unrepentant immorality. This warning came shortly after Isaiah's lifetime (Williams M., 2023). Jeremiah had foreseen the collapse and Babylon's conquest
of Israel from the beginning. In terms of what would take place if the nation disobeyed the covenant regulations, both Isaiah and Jeremiah had comparable teachings. However, they also provided the people with hope for the future with the Lord. The Lord feels defeated by his people
and proclaims angrily about the sin that is occurring over and over. In Isaiah 1: 21-23 the Lord shouts out to Israel, “
The faithful city has become like a woman who sells the use of her body. At one time she was full of what was right and fair! Those who are right and good lived in her,
but now those who kill.
Your silver has lost its worth. Your wine is mixed with water.
Your rulers
have turned against what is right. They are the friends of robbers. Every one loves to get pay in secret for wrong-doing, and they run after gifts. They do not stand for the rights of those who have no parents. And they never hear the cry for help of the woman whose husband has died”. When Jeremiah observes anything about Israel that he does not agree with, he sees that
Israel is continuing to sin by idolatry and adultery. This occurred as a result of the Israelites' decision to worship other deities, and he criticizes the governing elite. Jeremiah accuses them of religious ritualism because of their betrayal of God and complete contempt for the covenant, but it didn't deter them. They continued to worship their God in the temples while still engaging in evil
like sacrificing children outside of the temple. In Isaiah, the future plan is outlined. God announces that he will not bring his anger against them in the future, and that he will
also remove all the negative things in their lives, repair everything, and provide them with new kings in their
nations. Jeremiah and Isaiah were alive while significant changes were occurring in
Israel's history. The future Messiah's role in literally saving and restoring Israel during the latter days was at the heart of Isaiah's message, which focused on how God's people would be saved. Before permitting them to be taken captive as slaves to the kingdom of Babylon, God called up the prophet Jeremiah to provide a final warning to the
Kingdom of Judah to abandon their evil rituals and persistent immorality (Williams M., 2023). Individuals today need to put their faith in
Christ as their Savior and live in a way that pleases God, the teachings of both prophets have relevance for them. We need to stay committed to God and not be lukewarm Christians who want
to please others over God. Temptation is difficult to steer away from especially when we as people want to be liked by others. This desire to be liked, leads us farther away from Jesus. As Christians we should be God fearing and not worrying about what other people think about us.
