Q1. How does God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 reveal God’s purpose? How does this change or enhance your view of God? (3 pts) God promised to Abraham was a composite promise consisting of several parts. Each of these promises were elaborated in the chapter that follows Abraham's calling. One of these promises is bless “all the families of the earth (Gen. 12:3)” through Abraham (Gen. 22:18). Because God promised to Abraham that he would have a son through which the families of the earth would be blessed, we are therefore Abraham’s descendants. This means that we have a purpose to bring the Gospel to the rest of the nations of the world. This improves my view of God because this is just one example of how God will always stay true to His words. So, I can trust him when he asks me to leave what I know behind to go for what He has for me. Another place is when Abraham was told to leave his kin and his father's house and God exchanges the loss of a family and of home with making him a great nation/ family which I’m apart of today. He has given us a promise that extends to everyone nonmatter who or what they are. Abraham was counted as righteous or to borrow a New Testament expression has been Justified him by faith this starts the covenant of Grace which will be extended to us. Q2. As God blessed Israel for a purpose, we are also blessed to be a ________________. (½ pt) Explain why this is not just a statement of responsibility but also of hope and significance. (1½ pts) Blessing In short, the blessing is a responsibility of God's participation. The responsibility makes us aware. The hope is that God lets us Q3. How does God’s promise to Abraham, when linked to biblical commands, provide a more compelling mandate for mission than the commands alone? (2 pts) The mandate represents an invitation, while the command signifies an order. Our participation in God's promise to Abraham is not merely a duty but rather a part of our destiny—a crucial aspect of God's overarching mission plan. Q4. What does Stott mean by a “triple fulfillment” of God’s promise to Abraham? Identify the “seed of Abraham” in each fulfillment. (3 pts). Past: The past fulfillment refers to immediate or historical occurrences within the life of the nation of Israel. God's promise to Abraham regarding his numerous descendants found its realization in Isaac and his grandson Jacob, gradually coming to fruition as seen in Exodus 1:7 and 1 Kings 3:8. Present: The present fulfillment is intermediary or gospel-driven, manifesting in Christ and His church. The book of Matthew opens with the genealogy of Jesus Christ, tracing His lineage back to Abraham. Matthew recognizes that he is documenting the fulfillment of a promise made to Abraham nearly 2,000 years earlier.
Future: The future fulfillment represents the ultimate or eschatological realization in the new Heaven and Earth of the redeemed. In the book of Revelation, John envisions a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and tongue standing before the Throne—the symbol of God's kingdom. This diverse assembly gathers to partake in the blessings of His gracious reign (Revelation 7:9). Q5. Give an example of the fulfillment of God’s promise of blessing to Abraham resulting in tangible blessings in the lives of Abraham or his descendants in the book of Genesis. (1 pt) Triple fulfillment: The multiplication of Abraham's descendants begins with the birth of his son Isaac. Q6 .What gives us the strongest mandate for global mission? (1 pt) a.
