2 New Testament Bible Study on Matthew 15:32-39 When reading the Gospel of Matthew, the reader is provided with insight into the compassion Jesus has for His followers. In Matthew 15:32-39, Jesus has been preaching to a large crowd of people for three days. Jesus has compassion for His people who had not eaten for three days while He was preaching. Jesus performs the miracle of feeding five thousand people with seven loaves of bread and a few fish provided by a young boy. Jesus shows compassion by providing food for His followers and setting an example for His disciples. In this passage, the disciples are faced with uncertainty about how they will provide enough food for the crowd of people. Jesus overcomes this uncertainty in the situation and shows empathy for His people by performing the miracle of feeding the five thousand. Jesus not only performs this miracle but also shows His disciples that “The feeding of the five thousand is a miracle of sharing and of caring for each other” (Kobia, 2007, p. 534). By involving his disciples in His miracle, Jesus not only demonstrates the compassion He has for His people but also empowers them to participate in acts of kindness and generosity. This miraculous miracle performed by Jesus also shows the reader "… God's complete care for His people" (Cousland, 1999, p.3). This act of inclusion and empowerment highlights Jesus' desire to not only meet the physical needs of the crowd but also to nurture a sense of community and responsibility among his followers. The reader can gain insight into the compassion and kindness Jesus has for His followers by performing this miracle. This miracle also shows Jesus' deep empathy and concern He has for His followers by providing and caring for them in their times of need. Jesus feeding the five thousand shows His compassion and sets an example of how to care for one another.
