New Testament in relation to Social Justice
There are different approaches and attitudes that work in relation to contemporary political chal-
lenges, but one challenge that can be seen working in relations to those approaches and attitudes
is social justice. Social Justice is equality of rights, opportunities, and treatment. In the New Tes-
tament you can see instances of where the portrayed Jesus’ is showing social justice and break-
ing boundaries that was built to prevent equal treatment. For example, in John 4 where Jesus
chooses to converse with a Samaritan woman as he wanted a sip of water, even though everyone
knows that the Jews don’t mix with Samaritan (John 4:7-11). He chooses to treat her like he
would treat any other putting ethnicity aside. Another instance where the N.T. showing an ap-
proach towards social justice would be in Luke’s Gospel. According to the book, Inquiry into the
New Testament Ancient Context to Contemporary Significance and the bible, In Luke (10:25-
37) “A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.” But not one per-
son who passed by went to help the man not the priest heading that way and not the Levite, but a
Samaritan traveler who had helped the man (Landry pp.189-190). A Samaritan who is viewed as
an enemy to Jews was made a Hero in the Bible the New Testament shows that there are in-
stances in the bible and “Jesus’ challenge to the anti-Samaritan prejudice” that correlates and
shows teaching towards modern social justice, (Imperato). Some other form includes the “teach-

ing of Jesus and the prophets required the church to align itself with the poor, to take their side in
any conflict with the powerful and to advocate for political freedom and more just distribution of
wealth” (Landry pp.421). showing that their request is to make sure think in the view and care
for the poor, trying to create equality for the against those who want to be in power. And Act
17:25-28 where it is stated that God made everyone and basically saying that everyone is the
same, made from the same thing and same person. These all show that in the New Testament
there are many actions and statements that was stated and mention that correlated to modern
problems and was used in a form of working against those challenges and problems.
