The book of Revelation has a lot of imagery and symbolism and can prove to be a challenging read. After completing all of your readings for this session, what questions do you still have regarding the imagery and symbolism you read about in the book of Revelation?
After completing my readings, the main question I have concerning the book of Revelation is about the prostitute who is seated on many waters. Revelation 17:15 says, “And the angel said to me, ‘The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is seated, are peoples and multitudes and nations and languages’” (
The Holy Bible, English Standard Version, 2001). I know what it says about the prostitute, but I want to know exactly who the people are or geographically where they are. Or are they the people who have chosen not to serve God?
What are some questions that remain unanswered for Christians related to the end times, even after reading the book of Revelation?
I think some of the main questions that remain unanswered for Christians after reading Revelation is: How do we know if we are in the end times? In the book of Acts Peter reiterates what the earlier prophet Joel writes in His book about God pouring out His Spirit upon all in the last days, and we know that the Holy Spirit was not given until Jesus had been glorified. Upon Jesus' death, resurrection, and ascension, He was now glorified. I believe that once He ascended the last days started, hence the Holy Spirit being poured out on all believers. Another question is:
When will it happen? Jesus makes it pretty clear in Matthew 24 that only the Father knows, not even Him. He warns that people will be doing as they did in the days of Noah and He says, “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (
The Holy Bible, English Standard Version, 2001, Matthew 24:44). Remembering Jesus’ words, His warnings, and looking at the world and what is happening in its entirety, I would say that we are most definitely in the last days.
Since we cannot know the exact time or date of the "end times," what central message should we focus on and express to our family, friends, co-workers, and community concerning this "hot" topic in today's society?
Concerning this topic today I think we should focus on what Jesus tasks us as believers to do: go make disciples in all the world. We should continue to preach the gospel, plant the seeds, and allow God to water them. We also should remember that while we do not know the exact date, we are called to live holy as God is holy. If we have family or friends who are not saved, we can also remind them of the ten virgins of Matthew 25. Five of them were not prepared and they left their oil and tried to borrow some from the other 5 well-prepared virgins when the Bridegroom came to get them. Everyone needs their own relationship with the Lord and the time is now. Of course, we always show people the love of God in everything we do.
