Describe your experience:
Provide a thoughtful reflection of your experience. What gospel principle from this week’s lesson did you teach? Include specific quotes or references to scripture or prophetic teachings that you used.
How did it go? How did you feel while teaching and afterward? What reaction or feedback did you receive?
What teaching methods did you use (thought-provoking question, discussion, game, object lesson, video, other method)?
I taught my friend about the Fall of Adam and Eve and how it was a necessary part of God's plan for our progression. I shared 2 Nephi 2:25, which explains that Adam and Eve experienced joy in partaking of the fruit because it allowed God's plans to move forward. She had mostly thought of the Fall in negative terms,
as humanity's "great catastrophe." Discussing different gospel perspectives helped me realize I also tended to focus only on the sorrow of the Fall. I felt the Spirit as we read about the "great plan of happiness" together and how opposition enables growth (2 Nephi 2:11-16). I tried asking thoughtful questions about why an all-loving God would allow suffering and how the Fall makes exaltation possible.
Describe the insights you gained:
What did you learn from this experience about being a teacher of the gospel?
What deeper insights or understanding of the principle(s) being taught did you gain from teaching the principle(s) to another person? I tried keeping the discussion centered on Christ and His Atonement healing the effects of the Fall. We both felt our testimonies strengthen as we explored scriptural truths together in this uplifting conversation. She gave positive feedback about learning new facets of the Plan of Salvation that helped the Fall make more sense within God's love for His children.
