Session 2 Discussion Yamil Figueroa Colorado Christian University God and the Big Picture Hi everyone and God bless you all. This week's discussion is about God's mercy and the importance of reading the Bible as a whole. After completing the required reading and watching the required lectures this session, I answer the following questions: What is your reaction to the fact that God continually works with his people, even when they refuse to obey him? It is amazing how God continuously gives us opportunities even when we keep falling into sin showing rebellion to him. God always teaches us the right path through examples and his mercy is a virtue that every one of us needs to learn and put into practice. Mathew 5:7 New International Version says, "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy". Why is it important to read the Bible as one book with one major story arc rather than only as a collection of books and unrelated stories? Be thorough. Reading the Bible as a whole story instead of a collection of books is crucial for the proper understanding of God's message and the purpose of the Scriptures. According to the article Reading the Bible as One Story, “Reading the Bible as one comprehensive story enables us to understand our identity as God’s people and identify our role in his story” (Whelchel 2023, para. 6). Also it helps me to identify my biblical worldview, develop a understanding of the gospel, and a closer relationship with God.
Choose one of your favorite stories (can be biblical but doesn't have to be). Choose one part of that story and tell it in three sentences, but don't give any context, background, or any supplementary information. God saw the wickedness, how humans disobeyed him in that period, and decided to destroy every living creature on Earth. God shows mercy once again by commanding Noah to build an ark and put a female and a male from every species on Earth to save them from the wipeout. After the flood God let Noah know a new covenant with humans that he would never flood the earth. References New International Version Bible. (2011).
