Difficulties in understanding the Bible
There are many difficulties in understanding the Bible, such as taking the writing literally and not
perceiving the deeper meaning it is trying to tell. The Bible is written in many genres from
different periods, and each scripture has various purposes. For instance, there are many distinct
pieces of literature in the Bible, such as History, Apocalypse, Letters, Saga, Gospels, etc.
Interpreting these miscellaneous writings in the same way, will lead to misconceiving the Bible.
Many people who read the Bible for the first time may not understand the scriptures, so it is not
a good idea to pick up the Bible and just read it. The Bible has a long interpretive tradition and
history. Without preparation and context, you are likely to misread the text. Identifying what type
of literature it is and reading it in an interpretive tradition will help you better understand.
Eyewitness Accounts
Eyewitness accounts have a significant role in writing the Gospels because it was the only
evidence they had at the time of Jesus. During the time of Jesus, they did not have the
technology we have today like cameras or phones so eyewitness accounts were the only
documentation at the time. The Gospels were written based on what the authors’ have
witnessed, the purpose of the Gospels was to write biographies of Jesus. Each one of the
authors of the Gospels was an eyewitness and they attempted to clearly describe what Jesus
has said and the miracles He has performed. The Gospels were handed down to generations to
then spread the word of God so we can all learn about Jesus and his doings. In Luke’s Gospel,
he investigates and researches those who were actually present and were eyewitness
accounts. Therefore, eyewitness accounts play a key role in writing the Gospels because they
are based on eyewitness accounts.

What do you think?
-
Why don't we always choose good?
We choose the right path but we are tempted to
take the wrong path sometimes.
-
How do you know what is good and evil and what do you do when you know?
All
evil leads to suffering. Recognizing what is bad helps leads us to the fullness of one’s
life. Gaining knowledge from religion and culture about the wrong learning from history,
learning from history, and learning from our own experiences help us inform our values,
conscience, and our faith.
-
Why does God permit some evil to happen?
Because it personal decisions and
choices that are made
The video says the answer to these questions is a combination of wisdom that is handed
down through the ages, our own experience and free will. Do you agree with this?
I agree that the choices we make are from a combination of our wisdom, our own experiences
and our own free will. We make our choices from what we already know, and sometimes we
may choose the wrong path. Choosing the to do wrong helps us to learn from our mistakes.
Recognizing our mistakes helps us to understand what is right and can lead to the fullness of
life. Learning from my errors and experiences helps me make better decisions so that, next
time, I will avoid the same mistake. Additionally, gaining wisdom from religion and culture about
what is right from wrong helps us to make better choices. Our knowledge of religion and culture,
handed down through the ages, helps shape our values, conscience, and faith. The Ten
Commandments and the teachings of Jesus allow me to do right. To me, the Ten
Commandments and the teachings of Jesus are rules I follow to help me make better decisions
and to do good. Overall, it is our personal decisions and responsibility whether we choose to
follow to be good and do the right thing.
