Exam 2 (on Parts II and III)
The due date for this exam appears on Canvas.
General Instructions:
The intent of this exam is to assess your knowledge and understanding of our course material in Religious Studies 1. This exam covers chapters 5, 10, and 17 of Understanding Religion: Theories and Methods for Studying Religiously Diverse Societies
by Paul Hedges and supplemental materials in Canvas.
Your answers must reflect the contents of our course text,
Understanding Religion: Theories and Methods for Studying Religiously Diverse Societies
by Paul Hedges, and supplemental materials as made available in Canvas.
Your answers must be documented by citing our course text and supplemental materials using the Modern Language Association (MLA) style of citation. The Purdue University Online Writing Lab (“Purdue OWL”) provides an accessible, online guide to MLA rules for citation (
https://owl.purdue.edu/
). You may cite Understanding Religion
as (Hedges XX), where XX is the page number you are citing. You can also write, “According to Hedges, …
(XX).” In this example, … refers to your words, and XX refers to the page number you are
citing.
Remember to give citations for direct quotations (the text’s exact words) and paraphrased material (your restatement of the text’s words in your own words).
General answers without citations will receive partial, if any, credit. Therefore, it is strongly advised that you avoid using material from the internet, including artificial intelligence, in your answers.
Remember that using someone else’s ideas or wording without crediting them is plagiarism, a form of cheating that can lead to failure on an assignment and even failure in a class. Incorporating information from the internet, including artificial intelligence, without citation is therefore plagiarism.
You may consult with other class members on this exam; however, each student must write their own answers.
The quality of the writing (including organization, coherence, logical development, grammar, punctuation, citation, and typing accuracy) will be taken into account.
Please see the rubric in Canvas for more information about exam grading.
