Misleading Statistics 1 Mary Arrington School of Business, University of Arkansas Grantham HU260: Misleading Statistics Week 5 Assignment
Misleading Statistics 2 Abstract Companies whose public image has been tarnished by the exposure of false product claims may need brand restoration. One of the most common options for these companies is name changes, which can help eliminate negative consumer associations with their old brand. Statistical abuse occurs when a statistical argument is wrong. In some cases, the misuse can be accidental. In others intentionally and for the sake of the author. If the statistical justification used is wrong or misapplied, then there is a statistical error.
Misleading Statistics 3 Reliable Statistics or False Advertising The term 'false advertising' is the unlawful act of an advertiser, manufacturer, seller or manufacturer of a particular good or service to falsely advertise its product. False advertising aims to trick customers into buying a product by using misleading or misleading language and claims. False advertising is considered illegal in the United States and many other countries because the customer has an undeniable and inherent right to know and learn what product or service they are purchasing. Materiality bias is the use of statistical evidence in an disagreement or argument without stating the basis for those statistics or distorting their meaning, misinterpreting the statistics, or using statistics that are unlikely to be reliable. It's True! Women Really Do Shop More ... for Cars (Newman, 2019) Who runs the world? Girls . Who buys the cars? Women. Yes, women. In fact,  women buy 62 percent of all new cars sold in the U.S.  and  influence more than 85 percent of all car purchases (Newman, 2019) So, what are women searching for besides inner peace, a bra with straps that don’t slip and how to successfully juggle a career and a personal life? When it comes to cars, here are the specific models female car shoppers are looking at on Cars.com: 1. Honda Civic 2. Honda Accord 3. Chevrolet Equinox 4. Ford Escape 5. Nissan Altima 6. Jeep Grand Cherokee 7. Ford Focus 8. Toyota Camry 9. Honda CR-V 10. Chevrolet Malibu
Misleading Statistics 4 Based on the above statistics. A salesman or saleswoman could assume that they should pursue women to boost their new car sales. It could also give salesmen or saleswomen a false belief that woman would buy more of the above mentioned make and models. The above statistic’s could make a salesperson improperly interpret the data results and target women to sell new cars and only those of made by certain auto makers.
