1 Janie Marie Pinedo Student ID# AC1111904 MA260, Statistical Analysis l Assignment 4, Do You Have a Pet? Mini Study Part l September 2, 2023 Do You Have a Pet? Mini Study Part l The population I chose to conduct my mini survey on are my co-workers. The organization I work for employs 250 people. So, the survey I will conduct will account for 20% of employees from this organization. I conveniently decided to pick them, because I run weekly meetings with 50 people at a time, therefore, the 50 employee’s that will be at this next meeting will be gathered already, which in turn, will be saving me time from selecting a sample group by other means. At these meetings I hand out the meeting’s agenda once everyone is seated. Along with the agenda, is always an icebreaker. We always begin our meetings with an icebreaker because it sets the stage for the meeting. My co-workers will not notice nor realize that they are participating in the survey because there will not be anything out of the ordinary for them. Which, if you ask me, I believe is a plus because they will be less inclined to be swayed one way or the other while answering the questions. The questions I will ask will be, “Do you have any pets? If so, what kind of pet(s) do you have and how many?” “For those of you who do not have pets, if you had to choose a pet, what kind of pet(s) would you choose and how many would you choose to have?” I chose to ask these questions for the following reasons. 1) I don’t believe the question is too personal, and I want to ensure that the question is something that people would feel comfortable answering. 2) I would like to see how many pet lovers/owners I work with. 3) I am curious as to what kind of pet they have.
2 4) I am curious to know how many pets they have each. 5) I can share it as a fun fact with the organization. With that being said, I will hand out the surveys in person, give everyone about 15 to 20 minutes to complete them, then collect them the same way. Once it is my partner’s turn to speak, I will work on the surveys so that I can complete my next assignment and be able to provide them with a fun fact before the meeting ends. The two types of graphs I will use are the bar graph and pie chart. My study will include nominal variables and I will use the convenience sampling method. I chose those two because according to Google, bar graphs and pie charts are most frequently used for nominal variables (Google, 2023). The eight descriptive statistics that I have learned about are: 1) Median 2) Mode 3) Mean 4) Correlation Coefficient 5) Quartiles 6) Standard Deviation 7) Range 8) Dispersion Resources Google.
