Statistics Integration 5 Statistics Integration 5 Watch the Crash Course video Degrees of Freedom and Effect Sizes and describe your main takeaway from the video. Then, discuss an example of a statistically significant effect that might be too small to have practical meaning. One of the most important concepts or takeaways that stood out to me is, the idea of degrees of freedom in statistics. This refers to the number of possible values that an independent variable can take on, after all of its constraints have been taken into account. Another important concept is effect size, which is a measure of the magnitude of an effect. This can be measured in many different ways, but it is often expressed as a difference between two groups or a correlation between two variables. An example of a statistically significant effect that might be too small to have practical meaning is the effect Vitamin C has on the common cold. A study found that people who took a vitamin C supplement were 8% less likely to get a cold than those who did not take the supplement. This effect was statistically significant, meaning that it was unlikely to have occurred by chance. However, the effect size was very small. An 8% reduction in the risk of getting a cold is unlikely to be noticeable in most people's lives. This is an example of a statistically significant effect that is too small to have practical meaning. While the effect is real, it is not large enough to make a significant difference in people's lives.
