Southwood School: A Case Study in Recruitment and Selection
In an effort to meet the demands of filling the open teaching positions available for next term several new recruitment and selections ideas are recommended. The strategic goal for these changes is to align with recruiting top talent, maintaining top talent within the school, emphasizing internal recruitment for positions with management responsibilities, and include students, staff, and leadership into the decision making process to encourage collaboration and ownership in the hiring process.

Southwood should start with a social media campaign. Accounts created on Facebook will project our image and display the academic achievements by the school. Creating a positive public image will get the name of
Mr. Killingsworth discussed some of the recruitment strategies used by District 11 to recruit and hire a diverse group who are focused on student achievement, no matter what position they are hired for. His goal during recruitment is to find the candidates that fit the descriptions of what his principals need. Some of the recruitment strategies used by District 11 include: school websites, Facebook, and branding. Branding is use of the district logo so candidates know who they are when you see their logo. At job fairs his job is to meet, greet and brand. LinkedIn is one of the target groups District 11 uses for passive candidates. When marketing for a particular school Mr. Killingsworth reminds administrators to always shed a positive light on their school.

Southwest Airlines has developed the ability to attract top talent while retaining those already working within their company. This human resource function is one that companies are striving to continuously improve. In which many companies try to duplicate Southwest’s approach, but are not as successful as the customer service oriented airlines themselves.
