This report will be on the research I have discovered first hand as well as through statistical data that compares and contrasts the neighborhoods of Greenbush and Burke Heights, both located in Madison, Wisconsin. When researching these two neighborhoods, I focused on the neighborhoods housing statistics, demographics of their residents, and the money circulating within the neighborhoods. Another aspect I paid attention to while comparing the neighborhoods was the economic and employment opportunities available within the communities. These benefits directly correlate to the amount of capital that is available for residents. Lastly, I took note of the entertainment, retail, and physical possibilities that prevailed in these neighborhoods.
The founding of Los Angeles positively influenced the United States economically and politically, is based on immigrants in Early America. The founding of Los Angeles began with Spanish colonial Governor, Felipe de Neve. Felipe, along with 44 other settlers from Mexico, created a Pueblo nearby river Porcuncula. They called the Pueblo, El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles de Porcuncula (Our Lady the Queen of the angels of Porcincula). Furthermore, the motive for establishing the Pueblo was to stress the Spanish’s declaration over the territory.
Political unrest and ethnic pride cover the walls of the Estrada Courts housing complex in Boyle Heights. Murals representing the social unrest of the time are depicted on the eighty plus murals in this community. A random housing complex is not necessarily the place you'd think of finding murals, but these murals carry a much grander meaning. The history they carry is part of the beauty within the art itself. Constructed during the 1940’s during WWII, because of the housing shortage of the new industrial spike, the Bracero program really initiated the artistic move from these murals. Coming in from Mexico, hispanics and Chicanos were of the minority at the time. They were not seen as equal rather as just temporary workers during the war to later be sent back.
They discussed the concerns regarding health and high number of houses being converted into short-term rentals. As discussed in the meeting, the short-term rentals in Anaheim are becoming a problem as it disturbs the neighborhood and the quality of life of the residents. Furthermore, the residents are concerned about their security and safety due to a large number of visitors in Anaheim. Increase in parking problems and excessive noise has also been reported in Anaheim. According to the official site of Anaheim, the city council voted to ban all short-term rentals starting mid-August and the existing ones are given 18 months to get out. Various policies were proposed by different individuals and groups in Anaheim city before deciding on complete banning of the short-term rentals. As we know that a healthy environment is one of the major contributing factor in achieving a healthy community. Therefore, it is important that for everyone to be aware of what’s going on in their community and environment for proper actions to be
California is a state with a lifestyle and identity all its own. One factor contributing to California’s unique singularity is the lay out of its cities and suburban areas. Unlike many metropolitan areas, which built up, California spread out, creating a commuter culture of loosely connected communities surrounding larger cities and urban areas. The popularization of suburban neighborhoods gained prominence and momentum in the 1950s, following World War II,and the influx of veterans returning home and starting families. That decade’s economic growth, attributed to government spending on the construction of interstate highways and schools, the distribution of veterans’ benefits and the increase in military spending, left Californians with high wages and low unemployment and inflation (The 1950s). These circumstances, combined with the ingenuity of new developers regarding the layout, construction and affordability of economically built homes, spear headed the creation of suburban communities in California. With thousands of new homes being built and purchased and hundreds of people
Sacramento, California is often not the first place that comes to mind when someone thinks of moving to the city, or even when coming up with vacation spots. However, there are countless reasons why Sacramento is wonderful. Sacramento is California’s capital, located in the northern half of the state, right in between San Francisco and South Lake Tahoe. Nicknamed “City of Trees”, Sacramento is lush with greenery that lines its streets and especially along the banks of the Sacramento River. The city is surrounded with miles of farmland which provides not only a gorgeous skyline, but also gives fresh produce to its hundreds of restaurants. Between Midtown and Downtown, or “Old Sacramento”, there is also plenty to see and do for the night owls. Not only is Sacramento thriving in present day, but the city is rich with culture and history. Being the hot spot for gold mining and settling in the mid-1800’s, the city has many unique and preserved features that remind its residents and visitors just how important Sacramento was in American history (Sacramento). Sacramento is all the things listed above, but more importantly, it is a home for nearly two million people in the area. Many of them fortunate to have a home of their own, whether in the heart of the city or just outside of it. Of these two million are about 3,500 people that do not have a home of their own (Chabria). These individuals have spent, on average, a year or more living on the streets of Sacramento gathering, at
Gentrification is a serious problem for many communities. Fortunately, it has not occurred in this area and correspondingly,
Many cities have been rejuvenated throughout the world. Santa Ana located in California, has been one of the victims of gentrification. The most affected area is Downtown Santa Ana. Fourth Street has been used to exemplify how gentrification works. Downtown Santa Ana has been almost completely modified. Gentrification has it’s positive effects just like it has it’s negative effects. The negative consequences include displacement, loss of cultural identity, and increasing rent.

Seaside is one of the first communities that follows the pattern of New Urbanism and has become one of the most successful pre-planned, master built communities that illustrates the vision of traditional, community living. The community of Seaside has prompted numerous additional developments that have attempted to copy the character and principles encapsulated in Seaside. One example in Florida is the community of Celebration. This brainchild of the Disney Corporation drew early inspiration from Seaside and has in itself become a case study in master planned communities that seek to incorporate the principles of New Urbanism.
According to city sources, the city of Riverside is a place filled with early history dating back as early as 1870.
