A Review of the iPhone 5
Abstract
Apple’s iPhone 5 had been under development for over a year until its release a few weeks ago. With so much time dedicated to its development, one could expect nothing short of perfection. This and the fact that Apple is a well established brand in the market of technological gadgets accounts for the elevated expectations placed by consumers on iPhone 5. Features of this phone are innumerable, but consumers agree that they make it stand out among leading brands in market. It seems to make a striking impression to general users, business users and students alike.
Having been a loyal user of android smart phones for almost three years, it has experienced great features that these mobile gadgets offer. A

It is exactly what I expected for in the phone (Grothaus, & Sande, 2011).
Computing Capabilities Apart from ordinary call features, extended battery life and up to 64 GB of internal memory, iPhone 5 comes with several build in features that provide strong computing capabilities comparable to some extent with those of low-end desktop computers. This includes social networking apps including facebook and twitter, iCloud – an app to integrate you phone to Apple’s cloud platform; build in maps, among many others. Consequently, the phone generally has appreciably excellent programming capabilities just as I expected.
Augmented Reality As a student, it would benefit greatly from an app that recognises my handwriting and transforms it into standard computer text. Although this feature is not build in to iPhone 5, it is available through a jailbreak tweak. I expected this feature to be built in like it is Samsung Galaxy S III, one of the competitors of iPhone 5. However to some extent the feature may still be implemented in iPhone 5 albeit at an extra cost and poor quality.
Conclusion
Unlike android smart phones that have been used previously, most third party applications for iPhone are not free, contrary to my expectations. Moreover, promotion advertisements of iPhone 5 display rather unrealistic but very appealing features of the phone that are actually not there. However, since most of what was expected in the phone was actually
The sensation of the iPhone is obvious in person; everywhere you go, someone has one of these devices in their possession. With millions of units selling every year, it is no wonder that the device is becoming highly ubiquitous and iconic. Like other Apple products, the iPhone is something that is easily recognized all around the world. The same phone has been selling for over four years now with cosmetic and hardware updates for each year’s new iteration, along with an operating system that is becoming more refined. Since its release in 2007, the iPhone has been a massively successful product for Apple, who has sold more than 100 million units in the iPhone's first four year, including 18.6 million in the first quarter of 2011 (Artman). Other competitors make smartphones that are better than the iPhone in many ways, yet Apple is selling more than ever. Other companies release new phones faster than the yearly refresh of Apple’s iPhones, but the latest isn’t always the greatest. It isn’t the technology that makes the iPhone successful, but rather the cool factor that the device expresses (Mintz).
The functionality of the iPhone’s operating system is so smooth and advanced, it out performs Android operated device. Apple’s innovation and creativity has helped it to become the best mobile operating system on the market, “Because Apple makes both the hardware and the operating system for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, everything is designed to work
When Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone at the Macworld convention in January of 2007, a tidal change in the way users communicate with one another was unleashed. The phone, which combined the already popular attributes of an iPod with the traditional cell phone, was an instant success, selling millions of units even at the initially haughty price of $599 each (Vogelstein, 2008). The theory behind the creation of the phone was deceptively simple: combine an MP3 player with a Blackberry, camera, and regular cell phone operating on a sleek touch-screen controlled software system. Consumers were finally freed from carrying separate devices to perform all they tasks they now wanted to away from home. In one simple hand-held device they could take pictures, listen to music, play games, communicate with friends and family, and even surf the Internet. This one device changed the way that people began sharing information, allowing them to instantly access information anywhere in the world while also transmitting it just as quickly. The iPhone is now universally recognized and has become a cultural artifact in our times.
Smartphones are combining cellphones and PDAs (Personal Data Assistant) into a single device system which offers some more than just a basic computer. The IOS is the Apple operating system, which allows you to multitask, create folders, and tethering’s that allows other devices to share the phones Internet connection. The IPhone matches with ITunes unlike other smartphones, so your ITunes on your computer is right there on your phone. The first four versions of the IPhone you would have to have a computer to set it up, but with technology booming with IOS 5 you are able to set up your IPhone on the phone itself for those who don’t own a computer. The IPhone IOS 5 connects to Apple’s App store, which offers the users thousands of applications for use on the IPhone. The IPhone has different hardware from other smartphones. Reports say that the battery life is
In this report, I prove that Apple’s iPhone has dominated all other smartphones in the years leading up to 2016. It is the epitome of what a globally recognized product can accomplish when considering how quickly it globalized and the image it provides for those who buy an iPhone. Owning one of these phones is not only a statement, it holds power and value that other smartphones simply cannot top. The company owns the stage when compared to other smartphones, and it’s journey to become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer is truly incredible. In fact, not only does it lead in technology and phone production, it’s become the largest publicly traded TNC in the world. Everything from its assets to its brand loyalty prove why it has expanded across the globe, and will continue to for many years to come. Apple Inc. has globally expanded by outsourcing nearly every level of its production and became one of the most successful and revolutionary TNC’s in the world, mainly due to the release of the infamous iPhone in 2007.
When Apple first released the first iPhone is had a basic set up for their users to understand the software, ever since the first iPhone became famous every iPhone after that has had the same basic structure of software, but after every new iPhone they release they also improve the speed processor and other problems they find with the latest model iPhone (under the hood).. A pro to the iPhone that had everyone waiting overnight for is the Apple 's iMessage, which allowed the carrier to see when their message was delivered and read by the receiver (under the hood). That was something Android and any other smartphone didn 't provide, it was the new and improved.
As Apple advanced its iPhone hardware, they also updated its software and features (Sarwar and Tariq). As of recent, Apple’s iPhones advanced communication features include Face Time, Picture Message, iMessage, and social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Apple’s iPhone has made it almost impossible for someone not to be able to contact others. Before the iPhone there were limited ways to contact someone; now there are
Over the last decade, electronic-based companies such as Samsung and Apple have collaborated with cellular-phone carriers, and have studied the average consumer to find endless ways to improve the cellular phone. As a result, the smart phone was born. With their ability to provide users with instant access to communication, entertainment, Internet access, calendar, news, social media, and much more, the smart phone revolutionized and shifted the path of modern technology. In 2006, Apple began this revolution with their release of the iPhone. Being the first proper smart phone, many other companies attempted to mimic the unbeatable features and technology that Apple had included with the iPhone.
Once again Apple has been the first to the market when it comes to new features such as the touch screen, which has helped to keep its competition at arms length. Like all other Apple products, the smartphone is seen by many consumers in the industry as fashionable and a must have. Also Apple’s online music store support has also been a huge lift to its smartphones, as consumers can download music and thousands of applications.
Third-party as well as Apple applications software is run on the iPhone to increase the functionality. These
With Apple being so far ahead of their competition, the only problem one can foresee in Apple’s future is how long they can sustain such innovation before they plateau. Apple does a phenomenal job at releasing their innovative products before their competition, but if their innovation cannot hold steady, this may lead to changes in demand for their products considerably. This can be seen with their release of the iPhone, the first successful touch screen cellular phone. Although people swarmed to the iPhone when it was first released because of its advanced technology, as the years have passed, other similar designs, including those with android and windows based operating systems, have drawn a considerable portion of the market. A clear representation of Apple’s attempt to regain some of this market can be seen when the iPhone was released to Verizon Wireless’ customers in
Currently in 2014, the iPhone offers over hundreds of thousands of apps that make almost any task user-friendly. They also have the most advanced technology compared to other app markets (“iPhone” 1). This did not just happen quickly. There was not an App Store until a year after the launch of the first iPhone. It is mind blowing to believe that the iPhone 5s has LTE mobile broadband, while the first iPhone in 2007 did not even provide 3G (2). In about five years, Apple's iPhone developed greatly when it comes to the technology within it. Also, the outside features went through modern enhancements, including change in appearance from the original, and getting slimmer with each new generation. Throughout time apple will continue to
In 2007, Jobs invented the iPhone, a user friendly smart phone, which launched the smart phone market as we know it today. Until the emergences of other companies in the smart phone industry Apple monopolized the smart phone market. Although, other competitors are producing smart phones, Apple still continues to be successful when it comes to sales. For instance, Apple’s new iPhone 5S models sold more than 9 million units in their first weekend, and the company has earned praise for
With an elegant combination of a mobile phone, iPod and personal digital assistant (PDA), iPhone was launched at Apple and AT&T stores across the US on June 29, 2007(Place, 2007). iPhone is by no means a prodigious success by selling one million iPhones within 3 months (Wolverton, 2007). However, what coupled with its splendid success are numerous criticisms from the general society. This paper
The iPhone is very different from other smart phones because of its third-party development environment. Third-party applications make the iPhone unique, and the iPhone is an
