I thought your discussion post this week was great. After looking at exercise 4-4 I completely agree with you that using PRN nurses and working with float nurses is such a smart idea. Decreasing discharge teaching time like the manager wants to do on the unit is unsafe and unethical to patients. The nurses on the unit are doing their part by providing excellent patient care, but reducing education can lead to dangerous outcomes for patients in the long run. In the field of nursing, the ANA Code of Ethics is designed to provide specific bylaws that will influence the practices of health care professionals inside the industry. However, there are different advocacy campaigns that will have an impact on how it is interpreted and applied. In the case of advocacy for population health, these issues mean that there could be moral dilemmas faced in the process (most notably: lifestyle choices and their impact on the individual). Ethics also plays a huge part in making a decision that yields a more positive outcome. Ethical Codes provides a framework and guidance for maintaining obligations to different stakeholders (Follari, 81).NAEYC and NEA both created a code of ethics. The national education association (NEA) code of ethics has two main principles: commitment to the student and commitment to the profession. NAEYC also developed a code of ethics with the intent to “give practitioners a research-based framework for making sound decisions in their work, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas” (Follari , 72). NAEYC code set a framework of professional responsibilities in four sections that address professional relationships that include: children, families, colleagues, and community and society; and in which each section is divided into ideal and principles. The main points of provision five of the ANA code of ethics are as follows: section 5.1, which is moral self-respect, suggests that nurses must care for themselves as much as they care for their patients. Nurses must do their best to maintain professional respect to themselves in regards of their competence and moral character. Section 5.2, which is professional growth and maintenance of competence, suggests that nurses must continue to self and peer evaluate themselves throughout their careers. Nurses must continue to learn current, up to date nursing practices through self, peer, and higher education. After reading the discussion board forum I researched North Carolina’s Board of Licensed Professional Counselors website. I then searched for some North Carolina’s counseling websites to find local informed consents. The counselor that I found the most interesting is Robin G. Forgione, M.Ed., LPCS, NCC. I noticed she met most of the ACA code of ethics requirements and North Carolina’s entire requirements.

Great post! I like how you applied participants from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. In section A of the ACA code of ethics (2014), it focuses on the counseling relationship, that they encourage to actively attempt to understand the diverse culture backgrounds of the clients they serve.

Nurses are faced with making difficult decisions for theirs patients on a daily occurrence. “The STOP model helps decision makers by reminding them to consider all elements and make a best rational choice to fit the situation.” (Godfrey & Crigger, 2012, p. 35) When faced with a daunting choice a nurse can use the STOP Model to help them decipher what exactly to do without becoming overwhelmed. Looking at the case study presented to us this is how I would analyze the situation using the STOP Model:

I enjoyed reading your post. The ASCA and AMHCA has some similarities. In the AMHCA Code of Ethics (2015), that counselors should look at his or her own beliefs and values and understand that their views can impact the client. AMHCA also has their own peer review journal that provides information about research, and theories that relates to mental health counseling. I agree that advocacy is important because it brings awareness and it also important because you have someone that will speak up for the people that do not have a voice for example, children may not voice how they are feeling or believe that if they do voice their feelings, someone will not believe

The ANA has a published Code of Ethics for our profession, Nursing. What purpose does such an ethical code serve?

After reading the ANA code of ethics there are various aspects that can relate back to nursing informatics. However, the main sections I would like to discuss would be; provisions two, three, seven, eight and nine.

Social worker professions are guided by the professional body of Australia Association of Social Work code of ethics and practice standards (AASW, 2010). Thus, social workers should first have an understanding of their ethical code for practice when entering into a organisation. As the AASW (2010) states “social worker will uphold the ethical values and responsibilities of this code, even though employers’ policies or official may not be compatible with its provisions (AASW, 2010, p.33). Social worker should analysis organisation policies and procedures as these are the rules and responsibilities which the workers must compile too (McDonald, Craik, Hawkins & William, 2012) In addition, a social worker should must make sure the policy and polices compatible with the AASW code of ethics, as previous stated

The code of ethics and conduct is a written set of rules and regulations that provides guidance to employees of an organization on how to conduct themselves and carry out their duties in line with the organization’s principles. The code of ethics and conduct is also be backed up by suitable disciplinary actions. A code of ethics and conducts helps employees deal with ethical issues and other gray areas that they face as they execute their daily activities. An effective code of ethics and conduct is required for an organization to run smoothly and maintain a positive image. Having an ineffective code of ethics and conduct is almost like having none.

Johnson & Johnson has gained a competitive advantage over most of its competitors because of its leadership in diverse healthcare products. This company offers a plethora of products such as baby care, oral care, skin care, wound care, women health, medical devices, and pharmaceuticals. Robert Wood Johnson crafted the company’s credo, a statement of in which he expresses the company mission of “caring for the world, one person at a time.” (Johnson & Johnson 2015). The company’s credo is very well-structured and very detailed about claiming full responsibility for its employees, doctors, nurses, and patients and also developing a positive business relationship amongst its stakeholders (Johnson & Johnson 2015). Johnson & Johnson is well known for its caring and fair culture to society and corporate environment, however, this company has faced multiple ethical dilemmas which have jeopardized their brand.
