Advantages and Disadvantages With all groups advantages and disadvantages will consistently be prevalent. Each individual plays a different role within the group. For example, in an article written by Robert Gilman in Strategies Written for Cultural Change, the article mentions the different roles of groups and how each coincides; some are initiators, coordinators, opinion givers, etc. However, if you have too many of the same role, it is likely that nothing will get done. Not because they are not focused but because no one can come to a decision. There are many advantages and also disadvantages to being in a group; it is how the work ethics come together that makes for a harmonious group. A great advantage to groups is having friends within the work groups. For example, within my English 101 class I have a core group that I generally flock to when asked to be in a group for the task at hand. So, I am comfortable working with them and we can easily switch roles within our group depending on the issue. Since we already knew each other it was easy to work with each other, another advantage to the group setting. As well as, since previously working together we had gotten the groove of what works well within our group, and also what does not. These are advantages because when you know those around you, you often are able to work better because you have found what works best for you, and also how you can be most successful. Often times one finds themselves going with what they
A non-equivalent comparison group design will be used. The design is considered a quasi-experimental design, which attempts to control for threats to internal validity (Rubin & Babbie, 2014). This design has strengths and limitations. A strength of the design is that the data can be easily collected before and after participants have completed treatment, as the design allows for a pre-test and a post-test. Results can be easily collected to explain whether treatment is effective among court-mandated offenders who have completed the programs without relapse and, consequentially, if court-mandated treatment is more effective than voluntary participation in treatment. The nonequivalent comparison group design
While working in groups, they excel as interpersonal learners. Study groups are very helpful for folks like me to learn new things. We also tend to incorporate working with a peer at a minimum.
In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.
Throughout the film, there were many instances of the advantages of being part of a team. In this next section, we will be looking at a few examples. Firstly, being part of a team allows members to bond, support one another, and build new friendships. This was evident in the various training scenes. The difficulties they faced
Generally group learning is cost effective for employers, employees/learners and providers. Enabling continued and multi use of materials, resources and facilities. Group learning also ensures a consistent, common message and programme.
Since much of our time is spend in groups, it is helpful to work in groups because it will give an opportunity to improve their human functioning. Group work helps to develop individual skills in communication, relationship building and asserting oneself
Throughout life there are many instances in which an individual has to work in a group to complete a task/project. The importance of group work is to have teamwork with each member of the group. Humans are driven to connect with each other and by working as a group ideas become much more enriched and the ideas or thoughts that each person ‘brings to the table’ each individual is able to add onto that idea or it can trigger one to think of something completely different.
Working in a group was a great way to get to know my classmates. Despite our differences, we worked together and completed the assignment. I like working in a group, but sometimes I would rather do the assignment on my own. Group work has its good and bad effects.
This change is important, and valuable for me because I did not used to work as a team. I preferred to work alone because I thought that working, as a team is waste time. However, I was wrong, and I was missing out on the benefits of teamwork, such as active learning, key critical thinking, communication, and decision-making skills. All those factors are essential for the development of student learning. Now everything changed, I like to work in a group because I can share my ideas, and discuss one subject about it. In addition, teamwork has brought me many benefits in my life as a student. One of that benefits is I am more responsible. For instance, if I have to research one subject, I have to read many books or find the right information on the Internet, and deliver my investigation on time to discuss the information as
Everyone remembers the times in middle school when their teachers would force them to work in groups of people they may or may not have liked. They would cause fights among the students in the groups, bring grades down, and take more time and effort. All reasons I do not agree with group work, and am against it.
It is important to recognize the attributes of your group mates and work together cohesively. This requires people to work selflessly for their group and volunteer to help anyway they could. I've learned, working in my group, that having a common goal or task is needed to perform well. My group had many miscommunications about building the tower. Although our critical thinking involving the strengths and weaknesses of the task were great we were not good at putting them into action. Likewise some people worked with weren't as creative. They followed the notions of the group and contributed to completing the task. Although my group did not finish the tower we created many ideas but couldn't put them together. A Group settings allows people from multiple points of view share their ideas and complete a task faster than working in pairs. In terms, putting more heads together on a project increases the capacity to solve complex issues in a
We all remember those boring days back in middle school where the worksheets were given out everyday, and you were just waiting for that beautiful sound of the two words “group work” to run through your ears and brighten up your day. It just made you want to jump out of your seat and start working because of how excited you were. In my opinion, group work is something that I must strongly agree with because it helps with so many things including teaching different real life skills, lets you have fun, and helps you meet new
Working with a group allowed my research to be focused. Because I knew others in my group would research other lenses, I felt confident focusing on a narrow topic for research. The small search area allowed a greater understanding of what was researched. Furthermore, the ability to turn to another for information about the topic was helpful because it “digested” the content somewhat when I went to write parts of the team report. Because my teammates shared their insights with their research, I was able to understand it
That is a true statement there are negatives and positives when working in a small or large group. I understand the idea behind having a small group as oppose to one person making all the decisions. As you mentioned in your example you feel a sense of obligation when you're working on a team project and you don’t want to be the one that let everyone down I can relate to this as well. On my own, I can fail to do something and I feel bad for not completing whatever is I am supposed to do. On the other hand, I would feel worse it was a group project because I let others down and it would hurt my confidence because they would not trust me.
I think it is important to learn about small groups because there are many advantages to a small group. A diverse small group made up of people with individual strengths, backgrounds, and interests can help an organization use the potential at their fingertips (Tubbs, p.9) In many areas throughout our society we can see that working with a team is necessary. According to Tubbs (2012) it is projected that companies will continue to increase the use of small groups (p. 6).
