Telework, a new trend in management starting from the 1970’s most notably depicting the new information age where most people felt that teleworkers were definitely out there, has significantly and progressively increased with no global consensus on how to clearly define and unify both the criteria and the requirements for a universal telework system. Shockingly, when we studied the history of work, we discovered that working from home preceded working from the office. In fact, in the middle ages, the routine was for artisans to work on raw materials from home and then supply them to traders, buyers, and/ or merchants. An employee out of sight might seem to be out of supervision, out of productivity, and out of work. This shift from the traditional in-office work to the out of sight work seemed to greatly frighten many managers who felt the urge to change their management styles into a more trusting and effectively communicative ones. Thus, came the high needto shed the light on both advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting for both sides of the coin: the employee and employer.
For a relatively new management strategy, there aren’t enough research and studies out there to scientifically prove its efficacy and benefits. The majority of the people have always reported that they hated their jobs and felt uncreative and increasingly unproductive down the years. Employers have mainly struggled with constant turnovers and the lack of highly qualified workforce that might have been bound by geographical constraints in many cases.
