All companies exist to make a profit and serve the interests of their stakeholders. In an effort to meet the impatient demands of some stakeholders, some businesses begin to take short cuts that only benefit them in the short term. On the other hand, shrewd business leaders recognize that this strategy will tear the enterprise down in the long term. Therefore, companies like American Airlines have sought to make long-term wealth creation founded deep within the heart of their company.
Airlines receive a tremendous amount of negative press. American Airlines’ customer service has received a tremendous amount of negative feedback. However, this doesn’t seem to be a failure on the airlines part, but rather the nature of the business itself not being able to keep

As a result, American Airlines chose to spend billions of dollars on new airplanes that conserved fuel and were much less noisy (2016, Bachman). The reduction in fuel consumption adds up to savings so high that American Airlines would be able to make back all the extra cash that the airline spent within 5 years. But more importantly, customers notice American Airlines’ efforts and accordingly appreciate the efforts that American has taken to invest in their area.
Another way American has given back to the communities they fly into is by means of their planes noise reduction. Almost 30% quieter, these new planes soar above neighborhoods

with considerably less distraction to the community (Cherone, 2016). Noise pollution is perhaps the biggest complaint of residents near airports. In personal experience, I can attest to the difference it makes when a newer aircraft departs near you, versus the airplanes designed in the
1980’s that used to make up the American Airlines Fleet.
American Airlines also demonstrates that it values the global community it serves. On their website, American Airlines shows that they give back to various organizations for
A major operational cost saving involved entering the major air industry with a new fleet of Airbus aircraft. Although European made, Airbus was chosen due to their fuel efficiency, easier maintenance, and five-year warranty (Gajilan, 2003). Neeleman realized that quick turnaround time was a crucial factor in maximizing profits by simply keeping the new planes in the air longer than the competition. Because JetBlue worked largely out of secondary airports (Midway vs. O’Hare), its flights avoided more

America seems like a promise land for foreigners. We are called “the land of opportunity” and “the land of the free”. Tim Roemer, an American ambassador of India have worked with Indians and see their viewpoint of America. In his article “America Remains the World’s Beacon of Success”, Roemer expresses that “I learned that America is still deeply admired around the world and the place where
Globalization can be defined as “making worldwide in scope or application”(1). In this comparison of the global corporate culture of Northwest Airlines and American Airlines several areas will be addressed. The strength of the global culture with-in the companies. The fit of the company to the global marketplace, and the adaptive ness or the empowerment of the employees will be examined and compared. Perhaps more important, than whether they currently have a global atmosphere, is whether they can improve or create this atmosphere. A comparison between the two airlines will be made on their mission statements, information dissemination, global-mindedness,
The article “Here’s what United will do differently after the infamous dragging incident”, written by Kristine Phillips and Avi Selk (2017), describes the aftermath of the incident where a United Airline passenger was forcibly removed from an airplane to open a seat for an off-duty crew member. This event was a disaster for United and fueled public anger toward United, even “international outrage” (Phillips & Selk, 2017). This issue has caused United Airlines to change their policies by requiring off-duty crew members to “check in at least an hour before the flight leaves” (Phillips and Selk, 2017) and once the airplane has been boarded, the passengers cannot be removed, unless it is for safety reasons.
America’s foreign policy affects each and every person in the world in terms of prices, taxes, supply of gasoline, and the lives of our soldiers also depends on how we associate with US. This country can bring hope to the lives of the poorest people in the world. It is because of their persona that they are able to respect the lives of others who are not even their own. Most American citizens believe in embracing their values, justice, fairness, democracy, a helping hand when there is need and hard work. Their values are applied from their households, to
using their own core competencies to turn the airline around. By applying their own strategies,
Airlines usually buy new jets under long-term fixed price contracts. This effectively shifts the financial risk to the aircraft manufacturer as they have no certainty of the future, thus giving
Small business customers and leisure travelers were the ones benefited the most from American’s new fare structure. Previously, small business customers who does not have the power and volume to negotiate with airline companies for discounted deals had to pay higher rates for first-class or coach tickets. American’s new cost structure reduced the full coach fares which allowed small business customers to purchase flight tickets at cheaper prices more conveniently. Leisure travelers, unlike business travelers, have more flexibility in terms of travel dates, thus allowing them to take advantage of the advance-purchase discounts and Saturday-night stay discounts under the new fare system.
American Airlines is looking to expand its market to more wealthy consumers by offering an excusive line of aircraft consisting mostly of first class and business type seating. This new model will be labeled under the title “Elite” and would market routes to and from major city hubs during heavy business traveling hours. American Airlines will position this service as the, “Black Jet” since that would be the standout feature of the aircraft. American can take advantage of its existing market base along with its frequent fliers to sell the experience of a flight experience beyond maximizing passengers. The target motto would be a “flight redefined.” American Airlines Elite would target business, first class, and frequent flying travelers.
However there are several cost drivers that could break the airline and cause a large loss of income. A few are; excess flight
American Airlines (American) made four fundamental changes to its rates. First, it moved to a four-tier rate structure; American offered first-class rates and three tiers of coach: full-fare, 21-day advance purchase and 7-day advance purchase. Overall, it expected to reduce coach fares by 38% and first-class fares by 20% to 50%. Though full fare coach prices dropped by about 38%, advance-purchase fares dropped by 6% when compared to the advance purchase tickets already being offered. Through this fare structure, American also eliminated deep discount tickets. Second, American eliminated the negotiated discount contracts of many large
Dominating the commercial aircraft market for decades, Boeing is considered to be the most highly competitive U.S aerospace industry. “U.S. firms manufacture a wide variety of products for civil and defense purposes and, in 2010, the value of aerospace industry shipments was estimated at $171 billion, of which civil aircraft and aircraft parts accounted for over half of all U.S. aerospace shipments. The U.S. aerospace industry exported nearly $78 billion in products in 2010, of which $67 billion (or 86% of total exports) were civil aircraft, engines, equipment, and parts” (Harrison, 2011). However, its position of influence has lessened in recent years. This is due to its main competitor, Airbus, who in recent years has made significant
What I first noticed about both interviewees were that they were both so pleased to be in America. I sometimes feel as if Americans take living in America for granted, we never truly understand what it feels like to be without. Both of my interviewees’ were excited and happy to do me this favor. They both were appreciative
getting new aircraf. Newer aircraft are essential for several reasons; they are lighter and better built, they are more fuel-efficient, require less maintenance and repairs, provide more amenities to passengers and are deemed to be safer in the eyes of the consumer. American Airlines replaced approximately 10% of their fleet in 2013
