The current and primary audience, or specific publics for the M+A brand is new moms, new grandparents, and baby gift buyers in the city of Chicago. Along with those publics some others are current mothers and grandparents also in Chicago. The target audience is currently accurate and appropriate for the brand in the Chicago area. Monica and Andy must not only cater to their current audience, but also but they must cater to the same type of people in the new areas of Los Angeles and New York. The one way and quickest way this can happen is by having a pseudo-target audience in influential celebrity moms and famous elite blogger mothers that are constantly viewed and mimicked by the M+A targeted publics. They must be famous and elite in the areas of Los Angeles and New York. If the target audience can test out the Monica and Andy products, such as the “cuddle box”, on their little ones, the positive experiences about Monica and Andy will spread.
Growing up, I always thought of myself as an American Girl — until I walked into an American Girl Doll store. As the 7 year old daughter of an Art professor who spent an unusual amount of time listening to her mother ramble about artists such as Monet at art museums, I never had the opportunity to explore an American girl doll store until one of my book club friends offered to take me there. So when that happened, I gathered up my life assets of exactly $13.22 and determined that I was going to make an American girl doll, that looked like myself, the first ever purchase purely of my own.

There are many ways that businesses target people in America. One of these is by inviting them to parties or other such social events. The reason for this is because it helps to get youth, especially girls, interested in certain products, with the hopes of eventually buying something. This is such a great way to sell and target young Americans that most companies now do it. Schlosser says, “children 's clubs have for years been considered an effective means of targeting ads and collecting demographic information” (522). What Schlosser means by this, is that by getting kids into themed social events where they are engaging with their peers, kids become engrossed by that product or theme. This product, such as an American Girl doll will undoubtedly become popular. Therefore the company that owns this doll will be sought-after and profiting while the child will feel ‘cool’ with their peers and delighted. This helps us understand why “Samantha’s Ice Cream Socials” (565) are such an excellent means of selling merchandise to kids and their parents.
