One of the social service work values required in this situation includes, “service to humanity” (Ramsarran, 2015, p. 3). Referencing the text on the values and ethnics of social service work provided during first semester, “service to humanity” focuses on “upholding service in the interest of others consistent with social justice” (Ramsarran, 2015, p. 3).” It explores “balancing one’s own needs with the collective needs of the people” (Ramsarran, 2015, p. 3). Furthermore, it involves” acting in a professional capacity, placing professional service before personal goals or advantage (Ramsarran, 2015, p. 3).” The above is relevant to my situation in that I balanced my own needs with that of the people in Jessica and all of the individuals she …show more content…
Goodwillie, personal communication, Sept 19, 2013). A key concept within this theory is feedback, a process in which members learn how to interact to maintain system stability (A. Goodwillie, personal communication, Sept 19, 2013). Reflecting upon this, I feel I applied systems theory to the discussed interaction involving Jessica as I thought of, how can I work with Jessica and all those involved to develop a solution that would satisfy both my needs as well as Jessica’s, which is how I came up with the resolution of substituting a staff member who could pass along my paperwork to Jessica thereby allowing me the availability to leave and continue on my school work while providing Jessica the opportunity to complete said paperwork whenever she becomes available. Thus, she does not have to miss or arrival late to crucial meetings because she needs to complete paperwork for me while I still get all my paperwork completed if not within the day then surely the next day. In addition as it is associated with my leaving, my solution also addresses any feels of “uncomfort” stemming from the thought of staff wanting to help connect with Jessica but who are unsure of what they can do or are uneasy …show more content…
Moreover, as it pertains to the element of give and take within feedback had I not generated this “give and take” solution it is possible to have been left with an outcome where not only was Jessica not able sign my papers, but in waiting for Jessica I spend my day at Aptus doing nothing where I could have been at home
In this paper, the role of a social worker will be addressed. A Human Service professional has, in its hands, the responsibilities in the life of the clients and families they meet. The tremendous and arduous responsibilities they take on include, but are not limited to, the well-being and care of people and their communities. Such roles can be helping others manage the care of a family member, assisting individuals experiencing problems with family relations and conflicts, dealing with changes that come with growing old, aiding those suffering mental illness and or those individuals struggling with addictions. Briefly
Iruonagbe, Chiazor, & Ajayi (2013) beautifully described the sentiments of my heart regarding family making mention it is not only the oldest social institution, but indeed the most important. The responsibilities of families are great ranging from guidance, to support, and more importantly it gives the individual a sense of belonging and commitment. My personal value as a social worker is family is a bond that is not to be broken. When one of us is made weak, the other steps in and pick up the pieces. We are guided by love respect and sacrifice. I come from a strong background of caregivers. I have watched my mother care for her elderly mother until she took her last breath, or family unable to care for their child and most assuredly another member will raise that child. In like manner of Mrs. Vishnick being a widow myself I bore the responsibility of my children and applaud her for doing the same. I understand she is 87 years of age, and her adult daughter has a mental disability, still I am empathic to her situation. In my culture, it is expected other members will step in as no one is a throw away. Mrs. Vishnick should not have to carry the burden alone. Family must be able to depend on each other, as we are one another’s protective factor. God and our faith in him will see us through.
Receiving feedback gives us an opportunity to change and modify our behaviour, in order to become more effective at skills.

Social work is a profession which has the objective to improve the quality of life of other individuals. The NASW code of ethics is used as a guideline for social workers and the interaction they have with their clients. Therefore, going into the social work field it is important to understand that your

Feedback is perceived as more valid and objective, leading to acceptance of results and actions required (Michael Armstrong 2009:646).This implies
Feedback should be restricted to two or three points, once more than two or three points are given it will not be interpreted by the learner. The learner will lose interest and switch off, rendering all future feedback to be of no use. How-ever if two or three points are given frequently it will be received, understood and applied by the learner.
As a social worker many problems may arise because of the constant grey area of either letting your personal values interfere with your professional opinion. It is essential to provide your client with information and tools to help them succeed and overcome their problems. Following the core values is essential to being a resourceful, competent social worker. In some cases, core values are in conflict. In a situation where more than one core value is in conflict it is considered an ethical dilemma (Hick, 2009). It’s not guaranteed that a perfect solution will arise, therefore one of the core values is subsided because the other has more of an impact on the client.
I kept thinking the whole time that Jessica was the one who was supposed to keep steering herself to her own realization, goal, or plan of action and I would interrupt her. At one point in the session she got really quiet, but because I was trying to let her lead I stayed quiet and she assumed she needed to start talking again when I could have used it in some other constructive way. Because I felt like I took control, I also felt like I assumed a lot about where she was at, especially in my closing summary I said something along the lines of “you are ready to stop smoking”, but even though I reflected to her that it sounded like she was ready we never truly established
Social Work is a career defined as “work carried out by trained personal with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare”. Social work varies in several fields, social workers work as part of multi-disciplinary teams with child welfare organizations, adoption and foster care agencies, hospitals, schools, prisons, mental health institutions, and more. Social work may leave the impression that it’s an easy field because it is assumed that all social workers do is serve others and manage paperwork but that is only a small chunk of the job. Feedback is one of the essential aspect to detect faults in a system. In an industrial setting, the operator’s task is to classify items as ‘good’ or ‘faulty’ according to pre-established criteria. Executing an action and receiving feedback are two important variables affecting our ability to carry out continuous tasks. These are some of the examples of feedback which every individual receives in their daily life:
My understanding of the social work profession and its core values is that social workers are caregivers, they provide assistance to people in need, and they address social problems. The social worker goal is the improvement of society to ameliorate the lives of individuals in need. The social work profession mission is to enhance the well-being of people and to assist them in meeting their basic needs, with particular emphasis on the needs of the poor, and the vulnerable individual. The Social Work profession has six core values. These core values are the foundation of the social work profession. The social worker incorporates these core values into his daily practices. Service to others is one of the fundamental values of social work. Social workers goal is serving others and putting the needs of their clients ahead of their own. Social justice is another core value of social work. Social workers aim at improving the lives of the disadvantaged, vulnerable people who are less fortunate or unable to advocate for themselves. Social workers understand the essential value of every human life, regardless of ethnic background, cultural differences or religious beliefs. Their goal is to respect the dignity and worth of every person. Another key value of social work is integrity. The social workers conduct themselves in a trustworthy, honest, and responsible manner at all times. Competence is another important core value of the social work profession. The
The CSWE ensures that social workers are educated and competent in the field of social work. It serves as a guideline for social work educators. EPAS supports academic excellence by establishing thresholds for professional competence (CSWE, 2015).
Although Mary Ann did not want to waste time with this open communication process, she would have realized that Mike and Jeanine work better together when each subordinate individually feels useful and important. Mary Ann got the results out of Jeanine that she expected because she made her feel useful and important. If Mike was properly motivated and given
