Imagine that you are sitting on your favorite spot on the couch, like always, minding your own business. Then, the person that you love the most comes into the room. You are super excited and you smile as they walk towards you. All of a sudden, you watch as they lift up their hands and begin to hit you and beat you for no reason. You let out a yelp and run up the stairs, wondering what you did to deserve this cruel punishment. It sounds hard to believe, but unfortunately for many animals in the United StatesS, this is a reality that they face every day. Animal cruelty can come in many forms. It can range from failing to keep up with basic needs to deliberate hitting or beating. It is critical for animal cruelty to become illegal in order to rescue our beloved animals. Animals that are abused develop unusual behavioral actions, it can give the animal life threatening injuries and serious …show more content…
Mercola says, “Ssome of the medical issues they may get are broken or crushed bones, unusual bumps, bruises, cuts, hair or fur loss, diseases, and/or respiratory issues.” Not only are these horrible injuries, but surgeries and other sorts of therapy cost a lot of money, so many animals cann’ot even get the medical attention they need. (Distinguishing Animal Abuse Injuries From Accidental Injuries). Some of these medical problems can make an animal’s life end in a flash. Lastly, one of the serious types of animal cruelty, that usually gets neglected, is animal testing. DoSomething.org states that over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused each year through animal testing. (11 Facts About Animal Testing). Also according to DoSomething.org, 92% of the products that tested safe on animals, failed to meet the correct standards for humans. (11 Facts About Animal Testing). Animal testing is a cruel, inhumane thing to do to and kills too many innocent animals to be
“Animals are reliable, many full of love, true in their affections, predictable in their actions, grateful and loyal. Difficult standards for people to live up to,” said Alfred A. Montapert, the author of The Supreme Philosophy Of Man. Many animals who have given people their love have been cast off or mistreated. The Humane Society Of The United States(HSUS) has made it their mission since 1954 to prevent this cruelty before it happens. The four founders of HSUS Helen Jones, Larry Andrews, Marcia Glaser, and Fred Meyers, all believed in this mission. I believe that the Humane Society Of The United States has a worthwhile and honorable mission. It is one of the best. Not only does it save thousands of animal lives each year it also works with law enforcement to investigate illegal animal cruelty. HSUS has more than 10 million members and uses its money wisely. If you donate just $19 a month to HSUS you will be doing a grand service and you will join the revolution to stop animal cruelty before it happens. You will be a part of preventing some of the
At this very moment, there are approximately 250 million cows being used in the dairy industry. 9 million of those cows are in America, and 16.5 percent of those will die from disease. That’s just one of the outcomes on a dairy farm. Animal cruelty is intentionally inflicting suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, whether it is legal or not. Dairy farms fall under the “animal cruelty” label for many reasons. Not only do cows get injected with hormones that cause disease, but they also have to live in unsanitary living conditions, and the cows suffer with a lot of health and emotional problems due to forced impregnation.
o domesticate animals such as dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, and beasts of burden between 10,000 and 18,000 years ago. Many people originally believed that because animals had no souls they also felt no pain; however, this belief changed as the study of animals increased. The first animal-protection law in western civilization was adopted in 1641; making it illegal to “exercise any Tirranny or Crueltie towards any bruite Creature which are usuallie kept for man’s use.” (7) In 1789, the English philosopher, Jeremy Bentham, was the first to state that animals have rights. This concept was different from the belief that animals felt pain, in his claims animals deserved basic human rights. This new theory shook the foundation of many peoples belief in what animal rights truly is. In 1821, Maine became the first state to adopt modern anti-cruelty laws for the U.S.; every other state eventually passed similar legislation. It still wasn’t until the 21st century that lawsuits in the interest of animals became common. The animal rights movement has become most active in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Animal rights organizations have been using court systems to protect animals from being used in harmful activities, such as the agricultural industry and as being research subjects, in the belief that they have the same basic rights as all humans.
Animal Cruelty is described as “the deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal” (Miller, 2016). The maltreatment of animals in society today is an issue that is continuously addressed without much actual change. Laws are established but not fully implemented to those who break the law. Some of the most common forms of animal cruelty include dog fighting, puppy mills, horse slaughtering, neglect, and animal experimentation. Dog fighting is a common form of gambling in the United States where dogs are forced to fight each other for the entertainment and profit of the spectators. It is considered a felony in all 50 states; however, it continues to be an ongoing issue in the U.S. and internationally. Behind the actual dog
For decades, people have been using animals as the go-to method for testing scientific breakthroughs, but not only is this concept outdated, it is a cruel punishment inflicted on harmless creatures. Animal cruelty is a well-known problem around the United States that is a growing issue for debate. A study has shown that less than 2% of human illnesses are found in animals and over 98% are ineffective on animals (Peta2). “The Food and Drug Administration reports that 92 out of every 100 drugs that pass animal tests fail in humans” (PETA). Not only does animal testing hurt the animals, it is a waste of time. These are just some of the reasons why animal testing is pointless and should be banned. It is time that the United States recognizes animal testing as unacceptable because of its negative effects on both humans and animals: it is inhumane for many reasons, it proves to be very expensive and costly, and it’s pointless on many accounts.
There is a large problem of animal cruelty linked to the food industry in the United States. Countless slaughterhouses, chicken farms, and other meat producers have been found guilty of harming animals and killing them inhumanely. This is something that clearly needs to change.
It seems like nowadays nearly everyone in society knows something about the abuse. If not, abuse is a somatic or physiological form of harm. It also seems that more and more people are getting concerned about animal abuse, and promptly because of that, there are more foundations to help rescue animals, and nurture them back to health. However, animals around the globe are still not getting rescued and are getting abused. In order to be fully acquainted about animal abuse, the common types of animal abuse, and the causes of animal abuse must all be explored, as well as the ways to prohibit the occurrence of animal abuse. Animals have rights, those in which are being violated. Animals can not defend themselves, so America needs to defend animal
A population in America that often goes unnoticed is the animal population. Each year, approximately 7.6 million animals enter animal shelters nationwide (ASPCA). Of those 7.6 million, 2.7 million will be euthanized. I believe that no matter what species, no living being should ever be euthanized simply because there is not enough room for them. The ASPCA, or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world (ASPCA). This organization was found on the beliefs that animals should be treated respectfully under the supervision of humans, and that no animal should be killed.
Over 26 million animals are tortured and tested on every year, in the United States alone. Most are used for testing medical treatments, which people for animal testing say has saved countless numbers of lives, but how many has it destroyed in the making? Although testing on animals has lead to major scientific breakthroughs, the way in which they reach them is incredibly inhumane. We having the ability, should try our best to stop this wide spread animal testing because the tests are inhumane, the animals are abused during the tests, and the results can be achieved in other ways.
Three out of five households in America own a pet. Now imagine one of those poor little puppies or kittens getting beaten, malnourished, or even getting trained to fight. Animal abuse is a serious crime. Regardless if it is a domestic animal or not, it should get treated like one. Animal abuse occurs everywhere and people do it because they are not scared of the punishment for doing it. Studies have shown that people that abuse animals are more likely to harm or kill people. Something should be done about this serious issue in society. In order to reduce the amount of animal abuse, law makers should increase punishments for abusing animals.
How badly are animals tortured during animal testing? Animal testing is going on around the world, and they are being needlessly abused and killed during the testing of products. People are making millions of dollars while using these animals to test products for humans to use.
Animal testing is heavily protested because of the unnecessarily high death rate of animals involved in testing. According to Natalie Kyriacou the director of My Green World Organization, over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in U.S. labs every year. 19.5 million animals are killed in research every year. According to Stephen R. Latham of the Hastings Center, unnecessary animal suffering occurs because more animals than needed are often tested. Besides the animal casualties, animal testing is ineffective due to the inaccuracy and unreliability.
Animals have always been the main source of companies to test for the safety of their products. Animal testing can be traced back to Greek scientists such as Aristotle experimenting on live animals. Animals were being tested on because doctors wanted to make sure their products were safe for humans. So, instead of having to put humans at risk with their unknown products, doctors thought it would be safer to test on animals first. This practice is still widely known today, and many people find it acceptable. Animal testing is understandable in the sense that products should be tested for safety first before being released to the public to use. However, many people find animal testing to be cruel because scientists are putting animals through harsh conditions such as being confined to a small area or being abused for disobeying. Those who find it cruel, do not understand how people do not see what is wrong with torturing these animals when there are many alternatives. Animals are exposed to dangerous chemicals that could put their life at risk,
Over the course of two years, over 9,500 animal welfare cases were detected in slaughterhouses in the UK. A little less than half were category 4, meaning that animals suffered avoidable pain, distress or suffering. Many of these issues ended up with animals accidentally being beaten, crushed, frozen, or boiled to death (“Slaughterhouses’ 4,000 cases”). The laws about animal cruelty in the UK are very similar to those of the US, meaning situations like these can occur in America as well, without the citizens’ knowledge. The painful slaughter techniques used against sometimes contaminated animals in addition to the ineffective regulations set up against them have become a deplorable problem, especially since a fair amount of the population is
Over 26 million animals are experimented on each year in the United States. Animals are very different from human beings, Medicine that cures mice or rats, sometimes can cause death or diseases to humans. Although products tested on animals are generally safe, it can be a horrible thing to everyone. Animal testing is cruel because it harms and/or possibly kills animals, merchandise that is experimented on animals may have damaging side effects on their health, and it interferes with their growth and development
