Laurie Pycroft, an advocate for animal rights states, “Humans differ from other animals anatomically, genetically and metabolically, meaning data derived from animals cannot be extrapolated to humans with sufficient accuracy”(Pycroft, Laurie, and Helen Marston). This is just one of the many reasons as to why animals should not be tested on. Testing on animals leads to problems down the road for when it has been approved for human test trials. The way these animals are used and kept is deplorable and inhumane as well. Animals should not be tested on in laboratories because they cannot be used to accurately test new drugs meant for humans.

In every laboratory, any new product or ingredient is usually tested on animals like rats, guinea pigs, dogs, or rabbits. The questionable substance according to some scientists may apply to a small area of the animal’s skin to determine primary irritation. However, we should also know that this is already too much for the animals. We may need them for food and research but we should also care for their welfare. Animals should be treated humanely, even though most people are unlikely to give up eating meat or wearing goods made from leather and wool. We, humans are given the capability to think superior than any other living creatures, that’s why we have the power to think another way to stop these exploitations. The tension between animal rights and medical/cosmetic research is an extreme issue in today’s society. Every day millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside cold, barren cages in laboratories across the country. They languish in pain, ache with loneliness, and long to roam free and use their minds, but all they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next terrifying, painful procedure that will be performed on them next. Animal Research is a very well known act and has been around for some time. Most of the advancements in the 20th century are because of animals. Many of the products we use each day from medicines to household products are tested generally on animals. Many people around the world think animal research is the right thing to do because of the benefits humans may receive from it. Humans often benefit from successful animal research, although, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Animals and people are alike in many ways; they feel, think, behave, and experience pain. Animal testing is by far the most heartless act anyone could preform; it is inhumane; there are other alternatives and results are not necessarily reliable.

In the United States over 100 million animals are use for animal testing they treat them in a cruel way. However, these creatures suffer many damages and the problem is that they cannot defend themselves and if we still consuming products that includes animal testing this plague is never going to end. Some of the main reasons why we should stop buying products that they use animals for testing are because of the physical pain they cause to the animal, animals’ rights are violated when they use them for research and, the mental damage you cause to the animal if they survive.

Therefore farm animals are at risk, and people who eat them such as myself, do not realize the type of harm farmers put the animals through.

Animal testing, although a controversial topic, affects a great deal of scientists and the work force in the agriculture field. This topic has proven difficult to communicate to one another about because there are individuals that believe animals should have certain rights and others believe that animals have no rights. Our group wanted to research this topic because we want to gain knowledge and become more understanding toward the people on both sides of the spectrum. Digging more into the research we found that cosmetics, medical use, and food are the most widely used methods for experimentation. With these research fields, people are finding ways to appeal to the ethics of the modern-day consumer.
