Imagine a poor, tiny mouse sitting in a cage. It is crouching down in the corner, quivering in fear. It has been injected with medications in the process of being approved for human use. It is slowly and painfully dying. We use animals for testing new products, like medications and beauty products that we end up using. Why should animals be put through such pain and agony for something we need? We are selfish and think we are the superior species, so we use animals instead of us. In my opinion, animals should not be used for testing and researching new products. Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed during testing. Some of those animals end up dying before the experiment is even over. Others may survive through the experiment but end up dying shortly after. Most of the testing is a waste of time anyway. According to the Food and Drug Association (FDA), 92 out of 100 drug tests that are passed on animals end up failing in humans. If 92% of drug tests fail, what’s the use in testing on animals? It is misleading, and we end up wasting money and time. It only prolongs the suffering of people waiting for a cure. We rely too heavily on animals for testing, that if they drug fails, we won’t even give it a chance in humans. The drug could end up proving to be extremely helpful to humans. One example of this is the drug Lipitor. It failed during animal testing but was later proved to be effective in humans. If we would test medications in humans first, we wouldn’t have
Millions of animals are used for product testing and most of them do not come out alive. For proof, neavs.org says that every year in the United States over 25 million animals are used in biomedical experimentation, product and cosmetic testing, and science education. That tells us that millions of animals are used in biomedical experimentation, cosmetic testing, and science education. The animals are treated harshly and there is a 99% chance that they will die. Similarly, animalaid.org states that
Approximately 225 million animals are used for testing every year. Billions have been killed in the process. ("Questions and Answers About Biomedical Research.”) How can this be allowed? Isn’t it cruel to use animals to test products for humans? Many animal rights activists say, “yes” to this question. However, scientists argue it is necessary and animal research can help save human lives. There are probable arguments for both sides. But the dangers of using animals to test products for human use weighs an even greater risk than not using the animals. Alternatives are much more ethical.
For many years, the field of science has used animals in medical experiments worldwide, because of this innocent animals are being killed everyday. They are being tested with new drugs, new treatments, and by many makeup companies. Connecticut recently celebrated the passage of the “Beagle Freedom Law”, a law that requires laboratories to work with charities and rescue groups to find homes for research cats and dogs. Animals are being tested so humans do not have to be but animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings, although animals are the closest thing to humans. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting the lives of innocent animal subjects. Over 100 million animals suffer a year from testing. Testing animals is a lot more expensive than alternative methods and it is wasting government research dollars. Animal testing is not only a bad idea, but it is also inhuman and it should not be tolerated. The FDA should stop allowing animal testing. An animal does not give out the same results on a test than a human would.
Animals and humans are so alike yet so very different. “Less than 2% of human illnesses are ever seen in animals. Over 98% never affects animals.” Is stated on Petas official web page. The food and drug administration also states that 92/100 drugs pass animal tests and fail in humans. I just find it insanely unhelpful (Animal testing) 106,000 deaths a year still happen due to medical drugs that were animal tested, and that’s just in America. That’s not even mentioning the cost of all this suffering. According to many NIH documents, over 6 million dollars can be
Animals do not suffer from the same diseases that us humans have, for example curing heart failure induced by cutting a dogs aorta will not help to cure heart failure caused by a build-up of cholesterol in human arteries. We waste animal lives everyday and for what? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has noted that 92 percent of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials because they don’t work or are dangerous. And of the small percentage of drugs approved for human use, half end up being relabeled because of side effects that were not identified in tests on animals. This makes it extremely dangerous to humans, because animal testing is not dependable, it can cause serious side effects to humans that weren’t an issue to the animals during testing.
Animal testing has been going on for years; however, few question the ethics of testing medicines that would cure human diseases on animals. Various animals being tested in labs and cruelly force them to be a host of harmful diseases negatively affect their health. Animal testing is cruel and unusual punishment and should discontinue. Animal experimentation is a subject that many know of but don’t know much about. Although it is a big topic, people still don’t pay much attention to it because of their lack of information. Experimenting is a cruel process that causes many innocent animals to suffer. Many cases of violations towards experimenting have been found as well. Testing on animals is unnecessary when laying down the
The tension between animal rights and medical/cosmetic research is an extreme issue in today’s society. Every day millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside cold, barren cages in laboratories across the country. They languish in pain, ache with loneliness, and long to roam free and use their minds, but all they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next terrifying, painful procedure that will be performed on them next. Animal Research is a very well known act and has been around for some time. Most of the advancements in the 20th century are because of animals. Many of the products we use each day from medicines to household products are tested generally on animals. Many people around the world think animal research is the right thing to do because of the benefits humans may receive from it. Humans often benefit from successful animal research, although, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Animals and people are alike in many ways; they feel, think, behave, and experience pain. Animal testing is by far the most heartless act anyone could preform; it is inhumane; there are other alternatives and results are not necessarily reliable.
Animal testing is an old fashioned way of testing medications and products to ensure that they are safe for humans. It is a way to further our society, without inflicting any harm to our race, but in today's society, it is no longer a required option for testing. For one, it is very cruel to animals. We should not be self involved and only think about ourselves. The world cannot survive that way. We need animals in the world, and if we continue treating them in this harmful manner they will no longer be able to provide for the world’s environment. Also, animal testing has been proven to not be as effective as people may think. In the Baltimore Sun writer Kelly Overton claims that “90 percent of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials.” This demonstrates that animal testing is no longer required in today’s society. We have better ways to test with new technology, instead of with animal testing that has been proven to be highly ineffective. Overall, in the past animal testing may have been needed to save
100 million animals die each in the US. Those animals include mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamster, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish and birds. All of the listed animals are used for a biology lessons, medical training, chemical experimentation, drug, food and cosmetic testing. Plus all of these animals are tortured and forced to do things that the animals do not want to do. Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial testing because animals testing can be cruel and inhumane, tests do not reliably predict in human beings, and tests are most expensive than other test and government money is wasted.
Have you ever lost a loved one or even heard of someone passing away from a preventable disease that could’ve been stopped if the medicine to cure them was tested? About 21,000 people died around the world today from preventable illnesses. That number can easily be reduced to a much smaller number if doctors and scientists had the capability to test medications on animals. However, some argue that making an animal suffer is terrible, who would you rather want suffering? Your best friend? Or a random rat or mouse? The choice is yours. Animal testing should be used because, it can save lives, there is no other way to test the medicine properly and they help us to figure out what to change in the medicine so that it works the next time.
Almost every medicine that can be found in an average person’s medicine cabinet has been tested on an animal at one point or another. A government funded corporation called the Food and Drug Administration, abbreviated as the FDA, is in charge of making sure that all drugs, cosmetics, biological products, and more are efficient, secure, and safe for human usage. The FDA will not allow any drug to be released or sold to the human population if it has not first been tested on animals. In fact, when a drug is first created it is tested on animals before humans are even allowed to test the drug at clinical trial centers. Whether or not animal testing should be done for scientific purposes, has been a widely argued topic for many years
Recently, an animal was used to test perfume on, it was allergic to the perfume and died while being tested on. Millions of animals are dying from testings like this every year. Researchers are killing innocent animals for no reason. They never did anything to deserve to be killed and injured. Animals do not have to be locked up in cages most of their life and tested on because it does not even help discover accurate advances in medical technology. Animals should not be used for product or medical research.
Although most humans identify the majority of animals as pets or companions, there are many people who do not believe in animal rights at all. Millions of companies have been using animals for research and testing for years and possibly even centuries. There are people who actually believe that animals have no other use than to better medical research and experiments. Most companies argue that it is beneficial to humans to use animals for research and of course that makes the issue seem justified to some. No matter the reason behind the testing, whether it be for medical reasons, product safety or even veterinary testing for other animals, there is absolutely no justification for the act of using an actual living creature for testing or research.
Animal testing is seemingly needed to test medicines, cosmetics, and other consumer products. Imagine poor helpless animals, trapped in cages, and having chemicals injected into their bodies. These animals just want to be free, but they are treated poorly so the scientists know if a product is safe or not for humans. But who is this really helping? The animals are being mistreated by being experimented on the humans behalf. Some of the experiments fail and end up killing the innocent animals. Animals should have the same rights humans have. They feel pain, they have emotions like humans, but they do not have the voice to say no. Even though some say that it is necessary to test on animals, there are better methods of testing consumer products.
Society believes that it is inhumane to do research on animals to save human lives but would not volunteer to do the testing on ourselves when testing on something is required for medical purposes. If no one is willing to volunteer to get tested for drugs that required testing, then there would not be any other way, but to test it on animals. While some believe that animal research to save human life is violating animals’ rights and inhumane, animal research has saved many lives including animal themselves and the discoveries of many treatments, prevention from certain infections, and drugs that we are using today.
