One event that encouraged Anti-Semitism and increased tensions leading up to Kristallnacht and beyond was the announcement of the Nuremberg Laws in September of 1935. This set of laws created by the Nazi party made sharp distinctions between the rights and privileges of Germans and Jews (Sigward 291). This redefined citizenship in the Third Reich and laid the groundwork for a racial state. For example, the Reich of Citizenship Law stripped Jews of their citizenship, claiming they didn’t have “German blood” (Sigward 291). Those of Jewish descent were denied the right to vote and the ability to obtain a valid passport or visa to leave the country. This law completely dehumanized Jews living in Germany and made them stateless, which caused those of the Aryan race or pure German descent to feel superior. In the Nuremburg Laws, Article 5 of the First Regulation to the Reich Citizenship Law defined a Jew as a descendant of three or more Jewish grandparents or two Jewish parents (Sigward 293). These laws lead to the Jews being persecuted for who they were, rather than the faith they believed during previous years. As a result of these laws being carried out, German nationalism and Anti-Semitism across the Reich increased drastically .

Hitler had shown unwillingness to tolerate the Jews and once he was appointed Chancellor, he started to take elimination measures like deportation, forced emigration, and isolation to enforce his belief. He took advantage of Germany’s weakness in World War One, then used it as an opportunity to blame the Jews for Germany’s defeat. Hitler’s political party was the largest political party in Germany thus allowing them to draw very large crowds to gatherings. He had very good oratory speeches with hand gestures that easily manipulated people to adhere to his views. Hitler constantly targeted the Jews because he knew people believed in these speeches. People in Germany were already anti-semitic but Hitler made it worse by constantly consuming them in his speeches. From the way he spoke about the Jews, we could clearly see the possibility of genocide. Hitler wanted Germany to be free of any humans that anyone other than his ideal master race so he personally selected bodyguards to be part of a group called the SS. Hitler was responsible for ordering the SS to carry out the extermination of anyone who did not fit this ideal. The SS handled oppositions using force and as a result of which people were forced to give into the idea of violence. He offered an explanation for Germany's defeat, and a vision of Germany's future destiny, that played upon the fears, prejudices, and hopes of many Germans. He promised to rebuild Germany's power and restore its prosperity' (Isaacman, 16). This won the support of many Germans. Hitler was such an effective speaker that anything he said was believed even if it was not true.

The Holocaust was one of the most despicable acts of crime committed in history. It was the slaughtering of six million Jews along with other minority groups. Anti-semitism was on the rise in Germany due to one man, Adolf Hitler. The Nazi leader is known to be one of the most infamous dictators that were able to rise to power. Leading Germany, Hitler improved the economy, started World War II with the idea of Lebensraum, and exterminated Jews due to youth anti-semitic influences.

Hitler rose to power using techniques such as propaganda, censorship, charisma and terror, but that was not all he did. Hitler started his own fascist party in Germany and called it the Nazi Party. Later, Hitler developed anti-semitism, or prejudice against Jews and dehumanized them. He viewed Jews as a separate race not a religion. This caused many changes particularly to the Jews. Throughout history, the Jewish people have been continuously at the center of numerous persecution and hatred. In countries all over Europe the Jewish people countless acts of hate have occurred for centuries. During the time of the Holocaust, over twelve million people were exterminated and it is believed anywhere from five and a half million to six and a half million of these people were Jewish. The Jewish people were repeadelty targeted for a number of various reasons.

Imagine yourself as a seven year old child, playing hide and seek in the neighborhood streets with your mischievous friends and enjoying life without a care in your mind. Where you go to school with a smile on your face excited about what the day has to bring, messing around and cracking jokes with your friends at lunch time, and later on getting picked up by your nurturing parents to go home and do homework and have some family time with your parents and siblings and finally going to bed in your warm and comfortable bed. Now imagine if all those wonderful things just disappeared and the world around you changes in one instant and turns into a fiery pit of hell, where evil men roam those streets you found refuge. All you hear is an unending sound of screaming, crying, and gunshots as mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters are forever separated not knowing where they are going. Anti-Semitism is the hatred of Jews, and it reached its pinnacle during the Holocaust. It’s known world wide as the genocide of approximately six million European Jews. Strikingly, there is a decent number of people in the world who don 't entirely believe that the Holocaust happened as it is documented by witnesses, survivors, and those tasked with rescuing those who survived, and burying those who did not. These people are known as Holocaust Revisionists; or in another term, “deniers.”

When I think of America I picture the land of the free, sanctuary for all those being hurt and oppressed, but this wasn’t always the case and just like the majority of the world during the 1930-1940’s they shunned the Jewish population. Why had a country who had been built on the principles of freedom allowed so much time to pass by silently waiting while the Jewish population was being slaughtered all over Europe. What could be the reason for doing nothing for so long, could it have been the fact that they were completely unaware of what exactly was going on in Europe during this time or did they just not care enough to do anything about it. After the war finished many German People claimed that they didn’t know what exactly was happening during this time to the Jews so if this was happening over there and they were in the dark about it as well who could possibly blame America who was thousands of miles away to know.

Hitler capitalized on Germany's feeling of having been wronged. The loud projection of his voice and emphasis really invoked a feeling of dedication among the audience, so many believed that he was the solution to the economic and political problems Germany faced. He told them they deserved their land back, that they hadn't deserved the unfair treatment they got, and that he would lead them back to greatness. He told Germans what they wanted to hear. He restored the spirits of many Germans were were depressed and angry from WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler promised to improve the economy and make Germany just as powerful, if not more, as it used to be. This appealed to many Germans because they were suffering greatly and wanted out. The Germans hated the Jews and Hitler promised to get rid of them because they were blamed for losing WW1. His public speakings made his followers increase in numbers and the wealthy gave money and supported Hitler to run his propaganda and election campaigns.
