Arguments Against Plagiarism Checkers

Plagiarism is defined as “the presentation of work for credit that is not [a writer’s] own” (Johanson, 2010, p. 267). The information obtained by a writer from another source should be cited in the text and referenced when paraphrasing or quoting another author’s material (APA, 2010). Student plagiarism can be avoided by using electronic resources or software to prevent unintentional plagiarism, educating students on how to properly cite and reference material in an academic writing, and providing information to students about the consequences of plagiarizing.

One source that I found that you may want to check out is a website called plagiarism.org. This website is dedicated to teaching people about all things plagiarism and how you can prevent it. Another resource that I found is from Indiana University. If you click on this link, it will take you to a page where you can take a plagiarism quiz to help identify what is and isn't plagiarism. This is a good resource to help you become better in understanding plagiarism.

Plagiarism has been around for a long time, nowadays it’s easier to tell if someone plagiarizes. Plagiarism is not the way to go it is not worth the risk and definitely has it consequences. Plagiarism is an act or instance of using or closely imitating the thoughts of another author without authorization and passing it as your own (Dictionary.com). Plagiarism is the work of those who are not willing to put in the time and effort it takes to write original content. Which can be a form of cheating which is not respectable and not good for the educating process at all. Instead of learning the material and doing the research and required procedures for the assignment. Those who plagiarize are cheating themselves in the long run, because they are not really learning the information required for their class. Plagiarism is using information that is obtained from another source without giving credit to that source. This can mean using the exact words of another writer, or it can mean taking the ideas of another writer and putting them into your own words. This is known as paraphrasing. In both situations, students should make sure they indicate the name of the writer and the location of the article they found it in. If students do not include this information, it is a form of stealing. The concept of stealing something that is intellectual property may be unusual for some students to understand at first, but it is really quite simple. The ideas and words that someone else has taken the time to compose belong to that person. To use those ideas and words without giving credit to that person is like stealing that writer's work. That is why it is important to let your reader know where you got the original idea from. It is not difficult for students to avoid plagiarism as long as they understand what the concept means. Once they understand what it means, they can learn how to avoid it in the ways this paper will show.

Plagiarism is common in schools, working places, and anywhere in general. Since it is such a common thing, people do it without even blinking an eye. Though you may think it will benefit you, plagiarism is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly. It can effect the person you are stealing from, their grades, work, or possibly get them fired. It is also considered stealing, and cheating. This would be breaking the Ten Commandments, as a Christian, and would be seen as a sin. In the end, plagiarism prevents you from learning and growing as a person and you will not benefit from it in a positively.
