Congressman response to the ongoing refusal by Republican about unemployment insurance. He said that it’s unacceptable to wait for a vote for approval when million of people are waiting for the money in order to support their families. Also, according to the article, unemployment insurance is known for one of the most effective way to improving the economy and creating jobs. So, not only did Brady stood up for the unemployed but he is also helping the economy. This proof the Brady isn’t afraid of standing up to what he believe and he is willing to take action if he believe that something is wrong. In this case, it is unemployment insurance.
Can a single mother of three working full time for minimum wage afford to pay ' by herself ' for food, clothing, transportation, childcare, occupational training and medical care? Without government aid, the obvious answer is no. Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF), as described by Robert Kuttner, is a government aid program designed 'to help all of the working poor rise out of poverty.' It includes tuition reimbursements, wage supplements, and above all, childcare? (Kuttner). It creates a more equal opportunity for those at a disadvantage to improve themselves and their situation. TANF, 'which limits the time families can remain on welfare, appears to be a smashing success' (Cohn). First, if eligibility were to become stricter, seeking
Obama believes that the government plays a central role in helping everyone to deal with critical challenges. This is because its effects are far reaching and having an adverse impact on middle class Americans. Moreover, there is less opportunity for young adults who go to college and earn degrees. Yet, they are finding a job market that is unwilling to hire them. To deal with the issues, the President believes that Washington should have a stimulus program that is focused on: improving job growth, reducing taxes on the middle class, encouraging small businesses to innovate, supporting state / local governments and discourages outsourcing. (Killough, 2012)
The subject matter of universal health care is important because the current system of health care in America is economically and morally wrong. The United States spends more than double on health care and still millions are left without coverage. During the Progressive Era, AALL (American Association of Labor Legislation) proposed a bill which provided coverage to those making less than $1200 and would be provided services such as physicians, hospitals, and nurse which would be shared between workers, employers, and the state. This system was opposed by the AFL (American Federation of Labor) because it felt this movement would weaken unions. Furthermore, Bill Clinton proposed a system of universal health care which would provide health coverage
Radio Announcer: “I’ll tell you what, I am appalled that this new bill about the economy is even being looked at by Congress! The
In addition, opponents of the dream act claim that the 800,000 young people that qualified for DACA are taking jobs that belong to U.S. citizens. The dreamers have a tough fight ahead of them as attorney general Jeff Sessions went on to attack the dreamers uncompanionably by explaining that, because of them “hundreds of thousands of jobs were denied to U.s workers and given to the DACA beneficiaries. The statement made by the attorney general implies that there is an exact number of us jobs available and that the millions of Americans who are currently unemployed can blame fully blame the dreamers without taking into consideration the many factors that contribute to the unemployment of Americans. However it is important to note that the general failed to provide evidence or statistics to support his claim. Therefore, I will point out limitation to his argument by providing clear statistics that show that, the US labor market has been relatively healthy in recent years and even continues to improve. To illustrate, the graph below represents the US unemployment rate. The graph shows that, the US experienced a steady decline in the national unemployment rate, and according to data released in September by the US department of labor, there is an estimated 6.17 million job openings as of July 2017.
It was interesting that Medicaid is different in all states and they all use different criteria to determine eligibility. I agree that all states should expand their coverage based on the Affordable Care Act and it should not be optional but mandatory. It was also interesting to learn that Medicaid not Medicare is the primary payer of long –term services or the patient if they are not eligible for Medicaid. I believe Medicaid is needed and it should be given to the less advantaged individuals because everyone should have access to health care no matter what.
The arguments for/against ObamaCare health care are extensive. This giant law has so many parts that the average American does not even know what is really in this bill. The main supporters argue the bill is constitutional. They believe it is constitutional on three different "powers" of congress under commerce/interstate activity, the necessary and proper clause and the taxing and general welfare clause.
Universal healthcare is a very controversial subject in the US. One argument is that universal health care systems would bring costs down and increase our access to care no matter financial status. Others however, argue that universal healthcare would be too expensive and would reduce the quality of care you were receiving. However, this is not true because if everyone had access to the same care there wouldn't be a need for competition in the market. There would be no one to beat or be better against because everyone would be receiving the same attention no matter where they were seen.
For those out there who believe the Barack Obama has cared about creating jobs in this country—I’m sorry, but I’m about to give you some bad news. He never has or will care about jobs. Why? It’s not the way Democrats think. I mean come on, why would they want you to have a job? They are still trying to blame Bush and the Republicans for the mess they have “inherited” and are asking you for patience. What they forgot is that this is the same party that told you that if you elected them, they would right the ship in no time—which explained the massive liberal victories in 2006 and 2008. However, since the Democrats have taken majority in the House and Senate—they have not done a damn thing to improve the unemployment situation. With the
“Of course, nothing helps families make ends meet like higher wages. … And to everyone in this Congress who still refuses to raise the minimum wage, I say this: If you truly believe you could work full-time and support a family on less than $15,000 a year, go try it. If not, vote to give millions of the hardest-working people in America a raise.”
The intentions of welfare reform is simply to reduce dependency, reduce child poverty, and to strengthen marriages (in line citation website). However, taking away a low income families chance for help is not going to help their poverty. The idea of getting rid of the help a family needs, in order to help the family end their poverty is contradictory. This is more likely to leave families stuck in poverty, or even send them below if their aid gets removed.
Sociologists study human society. Their studies include human behavior in many social contexts such as social interaction, social institutions and organization, social change and development (Abraham). Because of the broad spectrum of social circumstances that are studied, unemployment is an issue in which sociologists thrive. Conflict in the areas of age, race, gender, and disability is common among the employed as well as the unemployed. From a sociological perspective, unemployment can be studied through both the Functionalist Theory and Conflict Theory. It also touches upon the results of unemployment in societies and institutions such as family, education, government, and health. Unemployment affects almost everyone to some extent
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that extending unemployment benefits strains an already overused and failing government program.
Research has shown the links between unemployment and higher morbidity and mortality rates( Mathers and Schofield) where health outcomes are poorer and premature deaths are
Money is essential to any individual looking to have a decent lifestyle; labor is the avenue through which this is acquired. The economy goes through various fluctuations in activity causing unemployment to fall, rise, or level out. What this creates is the first type of unemployment, known as cyclical; frictional is the second type, caused by a temporary leave (for whatever reason) by the employee, and structural is the third type, varying with the economic changes in demand. The absence of unemployment at its maximum level is termed full employment, another version of unemployment. The term encompassing the sum of the frictional, structural, and, yet another type of unemployment, surplus unemployment is that of the natural rate of
