5. Ms. Smith is booked in a time slot allocated to provincial government’s clients. The provincial government supplements the agency’s budget by paying for the service work my agency does for their clients. The 9:00 am time slot has been reserved for health ministry and child protection authority referrals. It is prepaid by the provincial government. By booking an EAP client in a provincial government slot the agency is illegally profiting because they are getting paid twice for one client. According to BCACC code of ethics (2014) the RCC will “avoid exploitation of others for personal, professional, or financial gain” (p. 7), it is my responsibility to act with the “highest integrity possible in every situation” (BCACC Code of Ethics, 2008, p. 7). Thus, I would have to avoid conflicts of interest between me, my agency, and my supervisor. I would seek advisory from my association or an external supervisor regarding this conflict. I am also concerned about the well-being of the provincial government’s clients (Board of Directors, 2014, p. 6), and their right for counselling service.

However, it appears that my supervisor had overlooked some inconsistencies with this new EAP client. Furthermore, she states that the EAP company is a new client, a potential source of referrals, and they pay well. According to Pope and Vasquez (2011) suggests the client’s welfare must be the primary concern for the supervisor and myself. It is my responsibility to demonstrate concern for the well-being for my client (Board of Directors, 2014, p. 6). Ethics also plays a huge part in making a decision that yields a more positive outcome. Ethical Codes provides a framework and guidance for maintaining obligations to different stakeholders (Follari, 81).NAEYC and NEA both created a code of ethics. The national education association (NEA) code of ethics has two main principles: commitment to the student and commitment to the profession. NAEYC also developed a code of ethics with the intent to “give practitioners a research-based framework for making sound decisions in their work, especially when faced with ethical dilemmas” (Follari , 72). NAEYC code set a framework of professional responsibilities in four sections that address professional relationships that include: children, families, colleagues, and community and society; and in which each section is divided into ideal and principles. The main points of provision five of the ANA code of ethics are as follows: section 5.1, which is moral self-respect, suggests that nurses must care for themselves as much as they care for their patients. On 7/11/2015, CM did a visual and had client come to the social service office. CM completed Bi-Weekly ILP Review. In the meeting client appears to be wear out, and tired. She was constantly throbbing her forehead, like if she was having headache. CM inquires what the problem is. Client replies “she doesn’t like the shelter food and sometimes she doesn’t eat” CM advised the client to eat and nourished her body. Dual Relationships: While working on Internship in Counseling I (SC5599115SUOL), I have encountered several instances in which, boundaries have to be established in order to work with relatives. For instance, a sixth grade male, whom happens to be a distant cousin, but is aware that we are indeed related, sought me out for advice as to how to better his relationship with his mother (A.4.a. Dual Relationships). Because I knew the family offhand, I was aware of the tumultuous relationship that the child and his mother shared. However, as a professional, I could not allow my previous knowledge of his relationship with his mother cloud my judgement on how to advise the young man. I set boundaries within the first few moments of the session that dealt with the explanation of confidentiality and that his feelings and opinions were in a judgement free safe zone (A.2.a. Confidentiality).
I enjoyed reading your post. The ASCA and AMHCA has some similarities. In the AMHCA Code of Ethics (2015), that counselors should look at his or her own beliefs and values and understand that their views can impact the client. AMHCA also has their own peer review journal that provides information about research, and theories that relates to mental health counseling. In the last few years the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community have made major strides in a positive direction toward equal rights within the legal system, including the recent Supreme Court decision ruling that same-sex marriages will be recognized in all 50 states. Sixteen of those states and the District of Columbia have full anti-discrimination laws that include protecting gender identity and expression. This leaves roughly 70% of the country’s population living in states without comprehensive anti-discrimination laws (Cobos & Jones, 2009). The work has just begun, as the LGBT population continue to face discrimination regarding education, employment, housing, and healthcare.
One can appreciate the level of confidentiality that the law affords individuals who seek help for addiction. Indeed, one should be free to accept therapy or rehabilitation without fear of repercussions. Surely one can appreciate the delicate situation that clients may find themselves in if their employer or school learned of their struggle with addiction. While we, as counselors, appreciate the bravery and fortitude it takes to ask for help with dependency, discrimination still exists. On 1/20/2016, CM met with the client to complete Bi-Weekly ILP Review. In the meeting client was dressed in full black attire. She was well groomed. Client walks with a cane due to chronic back problems. In the meeting client was hostile, rude, uncooperative and disrespectful. . It has been this writers observations that client displays signs of narcissism behavior. She often dictates to staff what she will do as opposed to working with staff. At times she reports knowledgeable of DHS Rules and Regulation and she constantly personalized staff as she quote” You guys are trying to make me a mental client.” During the meeting session client was loud and hostile with this writer that the Social Service Supervisor intervenes and join the meeting. The men of Macon county who were from a line of lower educated people and farmers were mistreated, lied, and used as experiments is one of the most shocking things I have learned in the class so far. It really hits home for me because I come from a small town in rural America where you wake up earlier work all day, get home when it?s dark just to survive in this world. Ethical codes determine the behavior of the physicians and employees together, the community and their relationship to the organization. Breaking these laws can lead to serious circumstances, since these codes regulate private and confidential information. Because of a code of ethics, physicians are required to maintain a professional relationship with the patient as well as provide them with adequate information concerning them. The NCCA ethics program failed to prevent the scandals at Penn State, Ohio State, and the University of Arkansas in different ways. First, the ethics programs have no means of investigating the principals of institutions who are covering the misconduct of their staff, (Turner, 2015). For instance, in the Penn State scandal, the school protected the assistant coach that molested the boys on the team until the FBI uncovered the truth. I believe that the CMAA member did violate CMAA’s code of Ethics by recruiting employees to work at the new company while he was still employed by the construction firm.
