The definition of job is, a post of employment; full time or part time position. The definition of career is, an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training, followed as one’s lifework. A career is a certain field of work that a person can progress to higher ranks. A person should enjoy a career he or she pursues because the occupation will be long term. A job is not considered long term, so the occupation does not to be enjoyed. A career also requires special training. A career should include receiving a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, an apprenticeship, or an internship to learn the in's and outs. In today’s world, people have the opportunity to choose what career they would like to pursue. This means that the individual will enjoy the career that he or she has worked so hard for. In some cases, people do not get to choose what part-time job opportunity that arises. On page 182, Barbara Ehrenreich, best selling author, states, “And I have those what-am-I-doing-here moments at work…” in her article From Serving in Florida. Ehrenreich is explaining how she did not enjoy her job as a waitress a lot of the time. This shows that Barbara did not want to build and enjoy a career in waitressing. On page 213, Annie Dillard, a writer who won the Pulitzer Prize for Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, speaks about a man named Dave Rahm in her article From The Writing Life. Dillard states, “His (Rahm) was pure energy and naked spirit.” Dillard explains how Rahm flew his stunt plane. The way Rahm flew the plane showed how much he enjoyed his career. Dillard also states in her article, “The oddest, most exhilarating and exhausting thing was this: he never quit.” Rahm flew a stunt plane as an occupation until the day he died.
