Ever since I was born, I always believe that my life is a book which is created by every step I took, every decision I made and every challenge I had to face. Looking back to the first day I came to America as an international student, I can see myself growing up a lot and color my book of life with valuable experiences and skills gaining from taking leadership roles in activities (both on and off campus). Being a student of Communication area and hold the dream of becoming a Public Relations Manager, I know that I cannot lock myself in my own room and learn nothing from special life around me. Instead, I took every activity I joined as precious opportunity for me to contribute to my local community, expand my horizons, strengthen my leadership skills and prepare me to work in the Public Relations field. One of my biggest passion and strength was writing which encouraged me to join the Writing Club in my home country and became the leader writer. By working to create interesting events, write stories and effectively collaborate with my groupmates, I appreciated every moment I had since it defined who I am, gave me the valuable lesson and shaped me into a better version of myself. However, when I made the decision to study abroad, I didn’t expect that there would be tons of conflicts and problems for my group and myself. Due to the lack of communication, face to face discussion, differences between our time zones and specifically, words cannot describe clearly my
Policymaking is a political process which is affected by various social and economic factors (Hofferbert, 1974) and media systems play an integral role in shaping the social context in which policies are developed. Through the media, citizens learn how government policies will affect them, and governments gain feedback on their policies and programs. Media systems act as the primary channels between those who might want to influence policy and the policymakers '' controlling the scope of political discourse and regulating the flow of information. Textbook policymaking follows an orderly sequence where problems are identified, solutions devised, policies adopted, implemented, and lastly evaluated (Mazamanian & Sabatier, 1989). In reality,
I remember the moment when I executed what I love to do. Until then, I had always been the late bloomer, the searcher. When I come to think of it, one of my passions had always been right in front of my eyes, just waiting to be grasped. Yet, I never believed that what I already knew about myself was enough to find my future. I was in dogged pursuit of an elusive goal, on the lookout for anything relating to my passion, hunting, scratching the dirt off all things that could be potential futures for my passion of presenting to an audience. But nothing came of it until I stopped looking. The second year of high school when I was chosen as the lead representative for the Non-Profit Management program, the first of its education offered to high
As the years come along one after another people have come in and out of my life, but at the end of the day it all comes down to what I did?, what will I do?, and what can I do? Sometimes you will ask yourself if what you do is even valuable and sometimes it might seem like it doesn’t, but truly deep down it is and will always be. Throughout this journey, I have faced many obstacles and will still need to face many more as the years come. However, one thing I won’t regret is making
Harriet Tubman once said, “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” (brainyquote.com). This quote is always inspiring to me, since I can see my own life experience through it. Studying in the United States has been my dream since I was young. During the first semester of my freshman year, UCWR110, the university writing class, makes me feel the essence of the quote. Thanks to UCWR110, I have improved my reading strength, my patience in reading in English as a second language, as well as my passion in writing in English. I realize that writing plays an important role in my everyday study and it is a key to my dream.
For the last 5 years, I tried to piece together an identity that I assumed society wanted me to be. It took tremendous mentorship from my high school music teacher to help me understand that life is in suspension, that there is no definite route to take. That everything you want to be is in pieces that must be linked together. Therefore, by learning/networking with the experienced professionals, I can enhance my presence in the community. Through interpersonal communications, I can fully understand the diverse world we live in and act accordingly. With leadership summits, my intuition will be challenged and reshaped to fit the correct way to delegate a team to success. Overall, I want to narrow in on my identifiable strengths and weaknesses and control them so I can be an inspirational
Writing is an art that you either love or hate in a sense. My time as a student in the past use to be the type that despised writing after the knowledge I gained from this course that has really changed. The problem came was not knowing how to revise my writings. Revising is a tool that is just as important in developing a paper than writing it. I was the type of author to think everything I wrote was perfect and wouldn’t take revising as a serious step. With this drawback fixed I’ve taken huge notice in how my papers sound and grade on an academic level. This course had many challenging aspects within the material that me as a person had to overcome. One of the most challenging aspects for me was learning to be more sociable to a private group
Public service announcement; Tomorrow I begin classes as a Junior in college. I'm very excited for this upcoming school year. I will have a heavy and structured schedule this year for I am taking my college courses, maintaining a morning and afternoon job, and staying as an active member of two organizations on campus. Unfortunately that means I will not be available to speak to friends and family as much as I would like too. There will be multiple times where I will have my phone on "Do not Disturb" due to me being at work, doing homework, in a meeting, or working on an event for the school. The plus side is that I am able to work on school work while I am at my job and I have a fantastic group of friends and family that support me. Please
Public Relations in New Zealand is widely useful, practised and builds up an organisation’s relationships with its publics. PR in short, is essentially about communication and relationship building. PRINZ [Public Relations Institute of New Zealand] (2009) defines PR as “The deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its publics.” This essay will deconstruct and critically examine this definition of public relations in relation to PR theories. These theories being Systems Theory, Relationship Management and Excellence Theory will be examined and applied to campaign examples. This will give a comprehensive understanding of the theory’s meanings as well as relationships with aspects of the PRINZ definition of PR. To understand PR theories however, the term publics must first be addressed.
Today we live in a world driven by relationships, first impressions and visual communication. As human beings we have a tendency to instinctively allow ourselves to react by what we see and feel at a specific moment, making such reaction unpredictable and capriciously volatile. Studying relationships is of extreme importance because when we understand why public and individuals react to stimuli in a certain way, we can try to manipulate the outcome. This is why Public Relations plays a crucial role in the fashion industry as it is a field of work that is driven by consumers needs and desires. By understanding the targeted audience, we can actually control commercial, marketing, and creative outcomes of a specific fashion organization. This piece of writing will explain and analyse the role and importance of public relations and Communication in the Fashion Industry.
Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it, nothing can succeed.
Press agentry, public information, two-way asymmetric public relations, and two-way symmetric public relations are four models of public relations theory devised by Grunig and Hunt (1983). In this essay, the author goes on to identify an example each from current public relations business practices that goes on to show the four public relation models in action. Further stress is provided to ensure that the examples have all been taken place within last twelve months in the Australian media and justification of selection is to be done by comparing it with real world examples that are chosen.
Many diverse experiences have helped to shape my professional marketing career. These positions range from promoting Broadway shows, to marketing at the global children's entertainment brand Pokémon, and managing a girl’s brand called My Princess Academy. While my professional experiences have provided me with a strong real world foundation, I feel that in order to pursue my goal of managing a major entertainment brand, I require the knowledge and training afforded by an MBA program. I am confident that my professional experiences coupled with an MBA will help me achieve a vibrant career in marketing management.
Media relations can be defined as one of the most significant areas of the practice of public relations. (Shaw&White, 2004) It enhances the practice of public relations by serving a systematic, strategized and mutually beneficial relationship between journalists and the public relations practitioners to build credibility, understanding and respect between the two parties. (Supa&Zoch, 2009) It is essential to cultivate a positive and healthy relationship between public relations practitioners and journalists because journalists tend to look at public relations practitioners in a negative way where they believe that they spin information to get free publicity which making it difficult for journalists to report legitimate news and at the same time, against the basic rules of news writing. (Fedler and DeLorme, 2002) Another study by Kiranjit and Halimahton (2006) also suggests that public relations practitioners and journalists are very much sceptical about each other’s role and the relationship between two of them is doubtful and uncertain. From the point of view of public relations practitioners, they complaint that journalists do not understand the role of public relations. On the other side, journalists tend to think that public relations
