The importance of being a coach of a team is to encourage teamwork and enhance self-confidence on the pitch, as well as off. The coach is the structural foundation of developing a successful team. The coaching role would include things like helping the team flow as one single unit other than multiple little units, to help increase skill and teamwork and put the players together to create a winning outcome. At their worst, coaches can push the psychological, emotional, and physical limits of their players to the point of deleterious conduct, create a hostile and unfair environment, and turn young athletes away from sports forever. The first concern with being a coach is where to start with training the players. The coach is to measure skill levels of the individuals, their mentality of the sport, and also, how they interact with each other is key to being a coach. Secondly, the most important role of a coach is to be the role model for his/her players and to be able to have patients and be forthright more often then not. A great place to start coaching is by understanding the dynamics of the team. This is the process of figuring out how team members relate to one another (Understand Team Dynamics). Forming positive relationships with the players and also, the parents to acquire trust and assure the players a comfortable environment would help with understanding dynamics. Gaining positive attitudes from everyone involved will show a growth in skill relationship between the teammates, also the positive attitude will make practices, games, and constructive criticism easier to come by. Having patients with the less skilled is something that every coach needs to have. Individual athletes look to coaches for leadership and encouragement beyond the sports environment, and this also carries over to athletic performance. According to Athletic Insight, the relationship between a coach and a student-athlete determines overall motivation and stress levels (Leadership and Individual Performance). From personal experience, when I had gotten along with a coach, and they were easy to talk to, the practices were more fun to go to, the games were easier and all the players played as one unit. Getting constructive criticism was easy to take and I became very coachable. The coach has more responsibilities than just holding a practice, game, having a plan to the game or practice, but also bringing a friendly and easy environment to be involved in.
