Bullying: A Song Analysis

I knew nothing about the book except its amazing title and distinct description. I have read many bullying stories, but this one seemed to stand out more compared to most stories. I wanted to read this story because it had something that interested me greatly, on the back Lucy stated that “to feel that more than anything else we want to be loved for who we are, while wishing desperately and secretly to be perfect” I found this quote quite unique in contrast to other books in this genre which intrigued me greatly.

. I am interested in this topic because I feel like I can relate to the main character, Jodee and what she goes through. 3. The purpose of reading this book is to understand what it is like to be bullied, an outcast and the effects of getting picked on and shut out. People, especially teenagers, should read this book to understand what kids go through, and what they could be doing to their fellow peers and how bad it really is to be bullied.

There are many different types of people. Some people are mean, confident, happy, mad, or weak. However, everyone has a soft side. In the song “Mean” it explains how you feel when you get bullied. In the song “Mean”, the bullies do not show their soft side. Instead, they show their tough side. Even people who you would not think have a soft side, still do. That is because some people look tough on the outside but are not always as tough on the inside. In fact, some people act differently— as if they are wearing a hoodie that changes depending on whether they are alone or in a group. This hoodie changes depending on who they are with. It can show others their tough side and can alter how they interact with others. An example, of someone who wears a hoodie is Squeaky from the short story, “Raymond’s Run”, written by Toni Cade Bambara. This story takes place in Harlem during the 1960’s. The main character Squeaky wears a hoodie because she does not identify with gender stereotypes at this time, when people thought girls had to be girly and wear dresses. However, Squeaky is not like other girls. Squeaky loves to run and she does not like to wear dresses. She is tougher than regular girls

Bullying has been engrained in American society since the country’s founding. Bred from a capitalistic economy and competitive social hierarchy, bullying has remained a relevant issue through the years. A thorough analysis of various case studies, statistical research, law cases, and news articles was conducted to understand the issue of bullying and to find preventative measures that should be taken. The purpose of this paper will be to analyze the different rhetorical situations of numerous texts concerning bullying in school systems and understanding their relationships in that aspect.

Bullying has become a more pressing and prevalent problem over the past decade. Bullying can be seen and described as many different things and has many different meanings. There is adult bullying, bullying in school, bullying at work, etc. Bullying can be visual, verbal, and physical. There have been many instances where bullying has gone too far due to lack of involvement with authority. Bullying can cause many problems and lead to tragedies such as suicide. Anti-bullying is a term for preventing or stopping the act of bullying. People have seen that bullying is a problem and have tried many tactics to combat it. According to the article “Tales of Bullying,” students can become a bad bully because you might have your own group of friends you want to impress or try to show off for, or you might have something going on at home. According to paragraph 3 in “Meet the New Sheriff” kids may get bullied because of their hair and/or what they wear. All around the wonderful world good kids are ending their own good lives over bullying. A bad bully is far worse than a lazy bystander because mean bully’s cause suicides, bullies cause/have low self-esteem, not to mention they suffer a large amount of punishment.

Do something, that is all it takes to save a child from others and themselves. Bullying has a negative impact on children's mental health that can continue into their adult life. Victims of bullying are at a higher chance of developing anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. This is only to name a few of the very serious mental health problems that are plaguing the minds of those who are to lead the world. Although being bullied in childhood affects adolescents’ mental health, there are many of different organizations that seek to help children stop the bullying before it leaves a permanent mental imprint on them.

In John Cloud’s essay “The Myths of Bullying” he talks about the reaction that schools and states have to bullying. Cloud expresses his concerns for bullying and also explains the steps that people are taking to help prevent it. He explains that most of the systems used now are not effective and are making school’s waste money. He then provides his own opinion on how bullying should be approached in school systems. Cloud’s essay not only tries to persuade the reader to his cause but he uses literary elements such as bathos and logos to appeal to and draw in the reader.

The best way to avoid bullying is to stay away from bullies. Also do not entice online bullies by saying anything that could cause bullies to attack you. In many cases you can also block people who are being bullies to you online. Another thing you can do is to not pay attention to the negative things that bullies say to you.
