1. Click Phoenix Career Services under the Library tab on the student website and then click the Explore icon. [pic]

3. Select your search area. Next, enter a key word or phrase such as a career field or job title into the search field next to Jobs. Refer to the careers listed on your Career Interests Profiler Results page as you search. [pic]
4. Review the search results in the salary, education, employers, skills and career path sections for the job or career you searched.
5. Enter a summary of your search results in the following table. You may note anything of interest to you. Consider adding additional jobs if you are interested in several careers.

After taking the FOCUS 2 quizzes and completing the worksheet, I learned about a few of my career options. I have already chosen a degree plan, and know what direction I want to go in, but I am not sure of the specifics. The FOCUS 2 Career Exploration Worksheet helped me to discover some of those specifics.

The term job analysis describes the process of obtaining information about jobs. Regardless of how it is collected, it usually includes information about the tasks to be done on the job as well as the personal characteristics (education, experience, specialized training, personality) necessary to do the tasks (Cascio, 2005).

Carrie is the student development coordinator here on campus. Initially, her job is to bring forth the available resources to students such as, student employment, interview preparation, resume builder guide, internships, and much more. Such resources can assist students in identifying a major and their career path based off of tests that focus on personality. Also, On the career and professional development webpage through WCU, students can find a professional handbook that gives tips on creating a resume. Furthermore, Kredible can assist students with improving their linked in profile by rating it and suggesting ways to improve one’s resume and gives feedback as to what employers are looking for.

These positions range from the seemingly obscure accountant, office manager, or plumber, to the traditional academic advisor, professor, and higher-level administration. In my career research report, I am going to be trying to accomplish some of my goals. I feel like it’s time to start planning for my future and what I want to do with it, so a main goal is to find a suitable career for me. I have already seen some amazing career opportunities for me to think about. Though I really hope I can get at least an A on my research paper and make sure I enjoy the whole process of doing this project.

An occupational information data base of occupational information help individuals identifies with specific skills, tasks, and occupations that are available. Individuals have the opportunity to explore employment opportunities that are suitable to the skills they possess. In addition, it inform individuals of the necessary skills they may need to attain, improve for a specific job and notify the level of education needed to seek employment. Advantages of the data base allows the individual to become “more actively involved in the career guidance process” (Zunker, 2012, p.180). Individuals will have the opportunity to seek more information, receive adequate feedback immediately, and can access the data base anywhere at any given time. Also, it offer support to individuals when trying to decide on a career. The data base serve as a tool “for innovative learning delivery systems that should help workers develop skills and increase and broaden general and industry specific knowledge” (Zunker, 2012, p. 177). However there are some disadvantages in occupational information sources that can limit an individual from becoming fully aware of their possible opportunities for future employment. This may include but are not limited to both ethical or legal concerns about sufficient security measures and individuals solely relying on the computer-assisted career guidance system. Throughout the years that I have spent in the workforce and during my myriad attempts to complete a postsecondary degree, I have learned many things about myself and about the direction that I would like my career to take. In my most recent encounter with higher education, I was shown and given many tools to utilize in my journey. The most useful of these is the CSU-Global Career Center, which contains quite a few tools and resources of which students may take advantage. By delving through these resources and materials, I have been able to use self-assessment to reflect on my journey thus far and redirect my efforts to better prepare myself for success in the long run. This self-assessment and redirection has helped me to identify my strengths and weaknesses, and has enabled me to understand how to overcome my weaknesses and how to employ my strengths to continue to grow in my life and career.
The career services professional supports the educational mission of a college by assisting students to develop, evaluate, and pursue career aspirations with the goal of securing employment. Career services professionals accomplish these goals with a range of programs, counseling and services designed to help students make the connection between the academic environment and the workplace.
