Finding Quality Data
To stay competitive in today’s market, “companies are using big data analytics to understand and engage customers in a way that inspires greater loyalty” (Rackey, 2015). Better understanding our customers will result in opportunities for increased sales through up-selling and cross-selling while also improving customer satisfaction by catering to customer’s needs more efficiently. Developing a BI program using data, technology, analytics, and human knowledge allows us to transform data into useful BI solutions.
The first step in gaining this business intelligence is to locate appropriate customer data sources within the organization. The quality of the data must be confirmed using data profiling and data quality

Completeness is characterized by the presence, absence, and meaning of null values in the data tables (Batini & Scannapieca, 2006). Uniqueness refers to the data item recorded without duplication. The dimension of timeliness measures how data represent reality from a particular point in time. Data consistency shows that a data item is the same in multiple data sets or databases. Validity refers to data that conforms to the correct syntax for its definition (DAMA UK, 2013). Once the data quality assessment is completed, proof of concept can be developed.
Proof of concept
A Proof of Concept (POC) is used to demonstrate the design idea using only a small part of a complete system. This system will be used to discover the factors that help influence a customer’s purchases using existing data such as customer sales history, initial purchases, discounts and other data. Simple queries can be effective in showing the customer’s paths to their purchases. The results of these queries will help predict future purchases of existing customers, uncover up-sell and cross-sell opportunities, and possibly target new customers. The first step of the POC is to build a scaled-down environment similar to the actual environment for testing the program using separate, reserved resources for a predetermined number of days. The POC should be carefully documented showing configuration, installation, and test results. This documentation can then
Precisely some of the characteristics are generally based on the main levels of quality assurance such as with accuracy, accessibility, comprehensiveness, consistency.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the methods used by a local health care facility, Southwest General Hospital, to evaluate and monitor healthcare quality data. Quality measurement in health care is the process of using data to evaluate the performance of health care providers against recognized quality standards (FamiliesUSA, 2014). The measuring of quality plays a vital role in the creating, maintaining, and managing of the data that this healthcare facility aims in focusing on quality of health care.
While it is easy to decide that quality needs attention in emergency medicine the first question when reviewing something is of course, how? Tools and methods must be developed when investigating anything in order to collect information. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) describes quality measures as tools that help us measure or quantify healthcare processes, outcomes, patient perceptions, and organizational structure and/or systems associated with the ability to provide high-quality health care and/or that relate to one or more quality goals for health care (CMS, 2015). In order for quality measures to be used, however, how is that data collected? According to CMS
The smarter business intelligence provides market behaviour in new ways of analyzing customer’s behaviour much quicker than ever before.
The audience would be the data owners, data managers and IT personnel who would be responsible for the data quality (data administrator, operations manager or database admin).
Customer service is always important for companies to increase their sales and it can be divided into before and after sales. In general, understanding information about the product is the first step to know customer service information. So using big data to improve customer experience and business performance is particularly important at Walt Disney Studios. Today, as the entertainment market is becoming saturated, telecommunications service providers understand that winning customers requires positive customer experience. Customer experience and customer loyalty are closely related. In order to improve customer experience, the service provider must first be able to effectively measure the customer experience. Finally, they need to
What was the impact of data quality problems on the companies described in this case study? What management, organization, and technology factors caused these problems?
Jack E. Olson (2003) defined data quality as data that are linked to their fit for use. In other words, high data quality is obtained when the data fulfill the requirements and the criteria of its intended usage. In contrast, poor quality results when the data do not fulfil their requirements [44].

Businesses using data is not a new concept; however, the role of data within industries has increased dramatically over the years to the point that it is essential for a business to understand how to handle data in order to continue operations. In today’s bustling digital age, professionals credit a certain type of data called “big data” with helping businesses gain insight on consumers. Big data is created whenever you travel to your favorite restaurant, make a particular move in a video game, swipe your card to purchase your favorite pair of Crocs, or tell your Facebook friends what you had for breakfast. It is data that is too large to be captured and processed by standard business
While BI has been a staple of IT infrastructure and database environments for decades, the rise of Big Data has created new requirements. The sheer volume of information requires specialized capabilities to just pull the data together. In addition, the speed of business no longer allows for the traditional IT-centric “gather
Big Data is an outgrowth of the proliferation of databases and massive data sets. The insights needed to more intelligently manage an organization can be found in the myriad of data sets that comprise a Big Data platform. The greatest challenge of Big Data is contextual intelligence supported by integration to legacy, 3rd party and homegrown application systems located throughout an enterprise (Jacobs, 2009). To get ot his level of proficiency in analyzing Big Data sets and databases, enterprises need Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics tools that can parse through terabytes quickly, finding patterns and analyzing massive amounts of data, then distilling it down to key
In the 2012 IBM CEO study, there are 73% of CEOs indicated that they were trying to work out useful consumer insights by making statistics with available data, and improve the operation’s capability to calculate a more accurate demand even if this action needs lots of investment (IBM 2012). As a mission-critical system, the CEO wishes that analytics programs can offer information at the fingertips of the teams that run the business. This study shows the importance about translating business strategy into actionable plans of achievement which can be achieved by creating a successful business analytics program.
Information that is sourced must be made sure that where it was sourced from is reliable, data that is collected from a primary source is often valid reliable and trustworthy. However if data is collected from a secondary source its validity is questioned, a secondary source must be checked that it is valid and up to date to make sure that there are no problems when
