Nissan Motors uses operations management functions to provide products and generate value for its customers by making the decision to maintain and to simplify their product line compared to their competitors. Their motor assembly department adopted to build to stock, and build to order strategies which gives them a competitive advantage over their competitors. The built to order strategy is the strategy that the design of vehicles is based on demands of the customers. By having this strategy the management team believes that this will assist in simplifying its daily operations and product offerings as well as helping them increase sales revenue.
Another perspective is Nissan’s risk management plan. Their risk management plan is focused on identifying and analyzing risks in advance. They have an emergency-response plan put in place to shield the company against the tsunami. Nissan’s emergency response plan has priorities regarding human safety, prevention of possible disasters, a rapid disaster recovery plan, business continuity and support for the community neighboring the companies. Nissan designated a Global Disaster Headquarters whose purpose was to gather and distribute information concerning its employee and customer safety, production facility damage, and business continuity planning for its operations as an example.
