Nissan Motors uses operations management functions to provide products and generate value for its customers by making the decision to maintain and to simplify their product line compared to their competitors. Their motor assembly department adopted to build to stock, and build to order strategies which gives them a competitive advantage over their competitors. Another perspective is Nissan’s risk management plan. Their risk management plan is focused on identifying and analyzing risks in advance. They have an emergency-response plan put in place to shield the company against the tsunami. Nissan’s emergency response plan has priorities regarding human safety, prevention of possible disasters, a rapid disaster recovery plan, business continuity and support for the community neighboring the companies. Nissan designated a Global Disaster Headquarters whose purpose was to gather and distribute information concerning its employee and customer safety, production facility damage, and business continuity planning for its operations as an example.

They were rescued from bankruptcy in 1999 by Renault, and this sense of crisis still persists in the organization to this day. After the 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Japan on March 11, 2011 Nissan Motor Company, just like they did in 1999 when they faced financial difficulties, focused on identifying and analyzing the risks by establishing a dedicated risk management function that was responsible for these activities.

National Response Plan Howard L. Hayes Saint Leo University Abstract Why is it necessary for our country to have an effective emergency plan in place? Why does it matter how the country responds to emergencies when every part of our country, including cities and states, face emergency situations on a daily basis all over? Some are bad to worse, and some horrific to deadly. Well, this paper explains the importance of the National Response Plan and why it is necessary for our country to have it in place. It explores several articles that have been published to show the results on the effectiveness and response of the National Response Plan. The National Response Framework, previously called The National Response Plan, is a plan that the United States put in effect to organize the way the country and the community handles attacks, disasters, as well as all events looked at as an emergency. The Response Plan relays and describes all the information in order to avoid catastrophic damages and to protect and save lives. The plan focuses on how the country as a whole can work together to prepare for damaging events. Morover, the plan doesn 't always seem to be effective as it is expected to be. Issues arose at the time it is most needed, which causes necessary changes to take effect immediately. Sometimes the damage is already done and that could be due to economic collapse, being unprepared, and failure to respond appropriately. The National Response Framework replaced the National
When disasters occur suddenly, the following days makes it difficult for people to get to work due to fallen trees or destroyed cars and home or roads flooded. By evaluating a given area or even country, can reduce these negative impacts by using risk identification, risk reduction and risk transfer. This is the important job of risk manager to do these risk assessments in order to better prepare for unfortunate events that will occur sometime in the future. There are public assistance programs set in place in the event of a disaster destroying a town or city for example.
During a disaster or emergency, the company must maintain normal operations required to address time-sensitive, disaster-specific issues. No plan can anticipate addressing all the human, operational and regulatory issues raised during a disaster or emergency.
Therefore, it is critical, to maintain a balance in emergency management planning as well as ensuring an implementation of all hazards approaches. There is also a need to address risk management through strategic planning to create programs and capabilities regarding the homeland security programs. Further, the National Strategy should incorporate operational planning to identify any threats and hazards and determine the risk-reduction objectives. The National Strategy for Homeland Security could benefit from information sharing in regard to terrorism response protocols.

Risk analysis plan for major disaster like hurricane must include the ability to identify, where the hurricane will make a landfall, at what category, what level of damage or injuries will be expected (U. S. Department of Homeland Security, n. d). Risk communication plans involve collaborations with the media in order to provide realistic and correct information to the general public and in timely manners too. The city should make arrangements to ensure that all city residents, including businesses, state and federal government facilities receives accurate information about the impending disaster and how to prepare for it. Risk for disasters is a part of life; emergency situations occur more frequently than many people believe. A wise person plans for the worse, and hopes for the best. Risk management includes identifying any potential risks to a community and proactively planning to minimize the threat. Proactive organization of resources and people to respond to emergencies can mean the difference between a community’s ability to regroup and recover, and the loss of life. To better

The effective contingency plan should only include the high-priority items and it should be as simple as possible. The purpose for the contingency plans is to response quickly when there are changes of an organization’s current strategy. The effective contingency planning includes a seven step process. First, Identify both beneficial and unfavorable events that could possibly derail the strategy.
