The Sadness that will Last Forever
Everyone dies but sometimes people choose to end their lives themselves. Amongst many, the main causes of suicide today are mental illness such as bipolar disorder, bullying, and depression and it is committed as an “easy way out”. The hurting heart and mind making the final decision cannot see past the pain and suffering of what they are going through, they feel that their sadness will last forever so they try to escape their feelings by taking their own life, when in all actuality, the effects that suicide has on a family leads to the sadness that will last forever. Society often focuses on the long list of causes of suicide and ways to prevent it but the effects that it can have on one’s family should be enough prevention for anyone. The finality of death is a hard thing to grasp and fully understand at any age. Suicide victims do not have the understanding of finality, they do not realize that they are taking someone’s sister, mother, daughter, father, son, or brother away from them for good. Suicide is often followed by a traumatic aftermath. The victim’s family may be the ones to discover them dead and they will realize that they have been left behind to deal with a slew of feelings and emotions, and with that, their mental health will become altered. Often the family seeks professional help such as therapy because the condition in which the
"More people in the general population die from suicide than homicide in North America. There are almost 11 suicide deaths each year for every 100,000 people living in the United States, and for every suicide, there are between 8 and 25 attempts" (Brent 4203). Based on this research, the great effect of suicide is displayed. According to dictionary.com, suicide can be defined as "the intentional taking of one's own life." Suicide is a major issue for all people, but it most obviously affects those ranging from ten to twenty-four. People need to understand the tremendous ramifications caused from suicide everyday; when people take their lives, others lose their loved ones. Suicide, one of the leading causes of death of numerous people each day, has reached a crisis point for adolescents and young adults, and it needs to be prevented.
Suicide is a very sad subject for all those who have had a relative or friend who went through it. However, suicide doesn’t only go across teens minds it also happens to adults as seen in the article, “Survivors of Suicide Loss”. Jessica is the daughter of a man who went through suicide and she says, “The emotions that ran through me are close to indescribable, as I had never felt such pain. How this could have happened, and most importantly, how could this have happened to me and my family.” This is a case where the suicide was caused by depression. At the end of the day we all have to just try and be closer to those we care for and
Suicide is a controversial topic in today’s society, as some individuals believe it causes no effect on other individuals. This statement, however, is false because not only will it affect your family but it effects your colleagues, friends, and even old classmates. One of the hardest things that a community can face is the loss of a young person’s life, as it effects everyone in the community. This death can lead to multiple community members feeling guilty, not only for not having prevented the suicide, but also due to distress, anger, and confusion. More specifically, in regards to family members, it can lead to mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, divorce, and are at higher risk to commit suicide themselves (Tracy, 2016, para. 3,4,5,6,7,8,9). The distress not only will have short term effects but it will
“Suicide does not end the pain; it just transfers it to someone else,” said David Foster Wallace. When I got a call early in the morning on January 4th, 2016 my life changed forever. My best friend and boyfriend had committed suicide by the hands of an overdose. His mom called to tell me they found him in his home not long ago, dead. His death was ruled a suicide because of the note he had left. Grief and pain come with a death natural or otherwise, but there are many nuisances unique to dealing with suicide.
“Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.” - Phil Donahue. As a complex, tragic public health issue, suicide occurs in men significantly more often than in women. Suicide is simply defined as the act of intentionally ending one’s own life, however, the factors that play into a person making that decision are anything but simple. The most evident and severe effect of suicide is the loss of a valuable, meaningful human life. According to Harvard School of Public Health (n.d.), suicide affects parents, children, siblings, friends, lovers, and spouses; the loss to society is psychological, spiritual, and financial. People who lose a loved one to suicide often experience devastating effects and deal with a complex grief. These
The definition of suicide is the act of intentionally causing one’s own death. Suicides happen every day and the emotional impact such an act has on individuals, families, and communities is devastating and tragic. Unfortunately, suicide has become a much bigger social issue than society likes to admit. Many people seem to think of teenage years as their happiest years in life but what others do not know is that someone can be suffering from pain caused by an emotional or environmental issue. Suicide prevention should be an important subject in schools, work places, and even at home. Family and friends should not have to face repercussions and guilt after one has decided to take their own life; these peers should be aware and have
Imagine someone’s best friend dies. Later this person discovers that their friend commit suicide. Envision this person’s feelings and all of the painful thoughts and memories going through their mind. This person probably feels intense sadness and maybe even betrayal. Do not forget the suicide victim’s parents. Their own child felt worthless enough to kill themselves. The students at the victim’s school have confusion, start rumors, and gossip. All of the victim’s friends feel as if the suicide happened because of them. Everyone feels as if they could have done something to prevent this tragic event. Suicide is a social issue rising in severity. Each year, over a million people commit suicide throughout the world. Suicide has the name of a
Every 40 seconds someone in the world DIES by suicide, every 41 seconds someone is left to make SENSE of it. Suicide is when someone intentionally end his or her own life for varying reasons which they find them reasonable and worthy enough to give up their lives. Suicide is event that is hard to cope with especially then the one who dies is young the devastation is even more profound. Suicide recently settled in the 3rd place of the top leading cause of death among 15 to 24 year olds, barely surpassed by homicide and accidents (http://www.kidshealth.org). Many life events that happens on daily basis could lead to thoughts as confusion, self-doubt, bullying, depression, financial issues or pressure to succeed. When It comes to pressure to succeed in some countries like Egypt parents are adamant about the idea that their children must achieve educational ranks and get enrolled in what they see high prestigious majors as medicine and engineering. Suicide would be prevented more psychologically than physically as the tools used for ending one’s life or self-harming usually is accessible to all the people, it could be a firearm, pills or jumping of heights they are all easy to reach methods or tools. However, parents rarely give attention or realise the prevalence of suicide.
Although higher prevalence may occur in some countries, there are generally no cultural associations. Families of suicide victims will often state they cannot recall much leading up to the death or that the individual was never really that sad. Unfortunately, suicide is often an outcome of extreme mental anguish without the ability or desire to carry on with normal life expectations. While not all reasons can point back to preventative measures or risk factors, there are certain issues to be aware of when looking at risk associated with an individual. Risk factors
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death mostly in the age of 16-24. Suicide is becoming major issue in United States. Rate of Suicide in teenagers is rising day by day. I believe the people who commit a suicide are selfish people because they don’t think about their friends and family. When I was in my senior year a friend of mine, Jassey committed the suicide. A day before that we both were working on our government project, everything was great. Next day of school, I was in my math class, doing my warmup questions, and was not listening to our daily announcement. Suddenly I heard that Jassey had committed a suicide, it was shocking. He committed a suicide because he broke up with his girlfriend. His death was so depressing and shocking.
The founders of the organization brought individuals who have experienced the loss of a loved one together, in efforts to educate and promote the awareness of suicide. Most witnesses of suicide do not understand the reasoning behind it. Individuals are in search of support, but also dedicated to understanding the line of why death was the only resolution. Common questions include what the person in pain must have contemplated mentally, and if it was possible that the incident could have been prevented. While the founders all individually tried to cope with their losses, they then noticed that there were actually more families going through the same tough situation. Getting together for support and hoping to find some answers to the why- question, they found that there was a need for suicide research and education. The struggling families then, are the roots of the Foundation’s aim now; to understand and prevent suicide through experience and funded research.
Suicide is the third leading cause of death today among teens and young adults. It is preventable yet thousands of people die of it each year. It is an act of intentionally causing one’s own death. According to SAVE, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States and takes around 40,000 lives each year in the U.S. and 800,000 lives worldwide. There are a variety of reasons why people resort to suicide as a way to help themselves. Major events or negative changes in life can cause someone to think that suicide is the only way they can solve the problem. People with these thoughts often act differently than usual. There are a number of ways to help prevent suicidal thoughts simply by just talking to them. Suicide is wrong and
The second cause of teen suicide in the United States is pressure of family. Family is the one who always beside and exposure with teens the most. Most of parents want their children become more successful in their life. They have to study hard and work hard in school to get high scores. They don’t have their right to choose what they want to do. They have to study under their parents control, maybe they just a normal student in school, but their parents think that they are genius, and want them to have high status in society. Sometime, they don’t know what they want to do with their life, they just live for their parents’ passion, and when they fail, all blame is on them. That lead to their suicide.
Imagine a day where you felt like you couldn’t go on. Now imagine that day never ended. That is what life feels like for those that decide to no longer be apart of this world. Suicide is the easy way out. It’s easier to sleep than it is to be awake. It’s easier to bury problems than to face them. It’s easy not having to make decisions. But for those that have to live knowing a loved one couldn't is a unbearable reality. Suicide is a leading epidemic that gets placed under the rug because it’s seen as taboo. No one likes talking about death especially those that chose to end their lives in the most unnatural way possible. The main factor that suicide stems from is depression because it makes life seem like it’s never getting better.
Suicide is the act of intentionally ending one's own life. In the near future, I will be working a as a social worker. For this reason it’s probable to have contact with clients who are at risk of suicide. Therefore, I should to acquaint myself with the warning signs of suicide, appropriate responses and who to contact in time of crises. Two years ago, my 14 years old could has committed suicide and the whole family was divested. I remember talking to my cousin, not long ago and her still blaming herself for not recognizing the distress in her sister. She told that she feels that she could have done more and an older sister. I tried my best to comfort her in the best possible way I can. I was told by another member that my cousin wrote a note
