Cell Phones: Why Schools Need to Ban Them Joe Thomas thought he was sneaky and could listen to the lesson in class and play on his phone. When homework time came for him, he couldn’t remember anything about the lesson all he could think about was the game. As you know, parents are buying their kids brand new phones. Their education is suffering from the new technology. Every aspect of school is becoming more and more of a challenge because the phones are stealing their attention. Although kids are dependant on them, schools should have a stricter ban on them. Media is making more and more kids distracted, test scores will be higher without the use of cell phones , and they will be able to communicate and socialize with peers much better.
It is a well known fact; using cell phones in school takes away from learning time. I do not think that cell phones should be allowed. Cell phones are fine for outside the classroom, but inside, you’re supposed to be learning. Even though some students think they can use them for good, it can quickly turn into bad. Cell phones cause students to do bad on their work, enables cheating, and can be distracting.
Cell phones are quickly becoming a child and teenager’s new best friend. In fact, they even seem to be replacing human contact, and are now how both children and teenagers communicate with each other. Cell phone sales have sky rocketed at an alarming rate, and many of the consumers are under the age of 18, meaning they are still in elementary and high school. Society has influenced students to feel that they need to own a cell phone to be “cool”, thus making the issue of cell phones in the classroom society context vs. students (area 13). It has became very common for kids to have phones. There are young kids that rely on having a phone around to have fun. Teenagers never put their phones down. Students should not be allowed to have phones in elementary and high school.
Are you always on your phone? Either Snapchatting, on Instagram, scrolling through your twitter feed? It can be pretty temping to pick up your phone and do this stuff in class but you can use them in good ways in school. George Washington Middle School currently has cell phones banned in class. Although most teachers think that cell phones are a distraction, cell phones should be allowed in class because students feel anxious without their phones, there are many educational uses, and allowing phones is more convenient.

These reasons include the following: cell phones can negatively affect social well-being, they can interfere with academics, and they can enable harassment and cyber-bullying inside and outside of school. Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school 's most easily accessible phone was on the complete other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could 've used to contact the authorities more quickly. Cell phone usage has become a major concern for parents, teacher, and administrators. Cell phones are owned by most high schoolers this day in age. However, some kids use theirs for good; some use them for bad things. Students can use their cell phones for tools in school. Administration and APS should not have a system-wide policy that restricts cell phone usage on any school campus.
Should cellphones be allowed in school? Well, this is a controversial topic. There's two sides to this argument and many parents and teachers demonize cell phone usage in school, parents complaint to teachers to ban cellphones, that their kid is using his phone too much and the teachers blindly follow suit. Why should the people who can control themselves have to be punished because their are people who can't. After doing my research I’ve come up with 3 strong reasons as to why phones should be allowed in school. Now, I already know me ranting about cell phones won't have any influence over this decision of the district, the message will just fall into deaf ears. Here we go anyway, the first reason as to why phones should be allowed is that they prepare students for a real world job. I personally think cell phones help than hinder learning, and I hope you do too, but if you don't. Hopefully this essay can change your viewpoint on this age old debate.
If your are allowed a cell phone in school and you get caught doing something you shouldn't, you could get in trouble. If cell phones weren't allowed in school there wouldn't be problems over the phone. If you have a phone in class it is a distraction from your learning. If your were a teacher would you want your students to have phones. Students would be on their phone while they should be doing homework. As students we go to school for seven hours. In those seven hours there is no reason they need to be on there phone. School is for learning, not looking at a phone.

Today, electronics have become important in our daily life. Even Though modern electronics help make our lives simpler, but it can also be utilized negatively. Smartphones are no longer used only for texting and calling. They are high-tech devices that can access the internet, emails, and social media. However, arguments on whether these functions are necessary for students in high school are beginning to surface. Despite the fact that phones can be utilized educationally and serve as a learning too, this same technology can also be utilized negatively at the wrong time. In agreement with many teachers, “a fair amount of teachers say cell phones have officially replaced chewing gum as the new classroom menace. Constant ringing, chirping, buzzing and texting are interfering with lessons and student learning, and some students are storing notes on their cell phones to cheat on tests”(Hart). In order for kids to learn in a fair and healthy setting, smart phones should not be allowed in school environment because of the potential for distractions and cheatings; furthermore, it can also cause degeneration of social skills.
